Had the privilege of photographing Merissa @merissahylton in her studio last year. Was so welcoming to me and was such an honour to photograph her space as we chatted about her work as a multidisciplinary artist. Inspired by African symbolism, spirituality and storytelling Merissa works across a variety of media, both traditional and experimental with a focus on ceramics and sculpture.

I first discovered Sophie Sellu’s work when I came across her website @grainandknot . Sophie is an award winning artisan woodworker who’s makes beautiful pieces crafted from reclaimed and sustainably sourced wood. Earlier this year I got to meet and take photographs of Sophie and her work ( and her gorgeous dog Stanley of course ) in her South London studio. Here are some outtakes from that shoot.

For International Day of Happiness, @who ,yes that’s today and this years theme is Sharing and Caring), I decided a couple of days ago to visit some of the wonderful independent shop owners in Crystal Palace to ask one simple question: “What small thing makes you happy?” 🌸

Alongside incredible photographers I truly admire — @sadecjoseph , @karisbeau , @tashahylton_ and many more — we are contributing 100% of the proceeds from the sale of our prints to support those in Jamaica affected by the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.
The words in my prints carry a deep love and respect for this tiny island and its diaspora, as well as a spirit of fearlessness in diving into the unknown — a reflection of what Jamaica is facing right now in the aftermath of the hurricane and the damage to its infrastructure and vegetation.
