This shoot with Tamara was amazing. Iām happy with the diversity we were able to achieve. Being completely open to ideas is where we thrive. Thank you for inspiring me, T!

For reasons Iām still uncertain of, Iāve been hesitant to talk too much about this project I did with my dear friends @redcalacastudio and @evacrawfordart back in June. I think itās maybe due to the sorrowful reasons we created it or possibly the divisive noise surrounding the immigration issue.
Maybe itās because I didnāt want anyone to feel like I was inserting myself into a community or conversation I didnāt belong in. I really donāt know.
But with all the news and clips of ICE storming through my beloved city today and after having lunch with my 14 year old niece, those hesitations ceased and I felt i needed to say something.
Itās simple:
Their names are JOCELYN ROJO CARRANZA and GABBY APARICIO ORTEGA. Remember them.
Jocelyn was 11 and Gabby was 13 years old when they tragically took their own lives last February after being bullied and threatened at school over their immigration status. Two young Latina girls no longer here with us over unnecessary cruelty and bullshit anti-immigrant rhetoric. Itās unacceptable and in my mind, the weight of their deaths falls on all of us. Itās why I felt obligated to get involved with this project and why Iām addressing it now.
So, whether you agree or disagree with the actions taking place here in CLT today, hereās a reminder of where certain lines of thinking can potentially lead. Letās all strive to be better humans, better neighbors, and letās all choose our words more carefully.
They matter.
To Jocelyn and Gabby,
Iām so sorry the world turned its back on you but I promise you both Iām going to do what I can to correct it.
Rest easy little niƱas.
