February has gone by so fast, no matter the extra day. Here's February's #secondhandstilllife taken from my finds at the Palo Alto High School Flea Market. Just the right amount of goofy and cute this time.
It's been so long since I touched gouache, but it was nice to enjoy it again. Until next secondhand adventure!!
@fogfair was such a a good time with my artsy buddy. Sure, it's almost all exorbitantly priced contemporary art, but it's still fun to peruse and draw inspiration from it all. I liked the talk given by Asian and Asian American artists and how relatable some of their experiences were being artists.
Here's some art that I found fun to recreate in my sketchbook. It feels oddly liberating and meditative to draw in pen only knowing I can't erase.
One of my other favorite hobbies is going into thrift stores and finding cool and wacky stuff. This goodwill has some cute stuff like these vintage crock pots and this wacky painted trashcan that is supposed to resemble a Starbucks frappe?
Anyways here is my first ever #secondhandstilllife on my page! Feel free to doodle and use the second photo to create your interpretation~
Travels as told through my sketchbook: Europe 2023
1& 2: Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam
3 & 4: Louvre in Paris
5 & 6: Musée d'Orsay
7: the artist at Rijks: sketchbook, directory, phone, pencil, and foldable stool in hand
8: the inspiring artists sketching Rodin (?) Sculptures at Musée d'Orsay
9: the super cool retro chairs at the ORLY airport waiting for my flight home
It always feels a bit intimidating to sketch and doodle in public but ultimately it doesn't matter that people are observing you. Learning to observe the art matters more!
Been into collaging for the first time in my adult life during the last bit of 2023, and it was been a fun challenge to put scenes, words, and photos together to capture a feeling. Here's my vision board for the coming year or for life in general to remind myself of who I am and what I want to be surrounded by. My friend had also hosted a wonderful birthday party where we got to create under the theme "Nostalgia" for my second collage.
With that, I'm wishing you all love, beauty, and warmth where you can this year! 🥰
Howdy y'all!
It's been ages since I've been on here, let alone practicing art consistently. For those that don't know me irl, my name is Crystal, and I'm a serial hobbyist who is currently experiencing losing my way. I am slowly regaining the courage to continue my creativity again through painting alongside learning to show up for myself in tougher areas in my life.
This is a piece I painted with a friend recently that is silly and cute, but most importantly, it is DONE. Here's to just getting more done!
These days my relationship to art has been 🥴 to say the least. But when I've gone out to museums, the distractions aren't there anymore and I can tune into focusing on creating with just a pen and paper.
I really loved this rhino vessel from @asianartmuseum
I forget that I have a whole folder of references to choose from with photos that I've taken 😅 been in an inking/outline mood these days. The commitment of filling in with color is too much for me to handle
