SHIFT IS BACK with our 4th edition THURSDAY JANUARY 29th, 8pm! Who’s ready for a night of intimate, thought provoking performances? We’re starting the new year with a new theme, Accept Existence. Following our past events with the theme of Resistance, we recognize that for so many simply breathing, standing, and coming as you are, alone, is an act of resistance. So this January, we invite our communities to come without pressures, and just be. Accept Existence invites reflection on who is seen, who is honored, and how we move forward together. Set within Berlin’s ever-changing landscape, this event is also a call to recognize those who have planted and paved the way for the cultural spaces we inhabit today. We’d like to acknowledge the stories that are often overlooked as the city continues to rapidly transform. CATCH THIS ICONIC TRIO THIS THURSDAY 29.01! Introducing SHXODDIO a spontaneous performative collective that contains a part of @kulshedrx_ (they/them) Albanian-Italian movement artist, whose work relates to politics of embodiment as in violent dances, erotic liberation and practices of care. A part of @gux_r (he/him) trans multidisciplinary artist from Buenos Aires, who pulsates the body and emotions as a survival strategy, embracing monstrosity and cringe. And a part of @a_d_d_1_s (they/them) queer Ethiopian emerging artist who uses movement to embrace rage against survival scripts, systemic erasure, and religious shame. Laia Flynn is a portrait and fashion photographer from Barcelona, and has been a loyal supporter of SHIFT since the beginning. Documenting each event with her special gaze and creating beautiful designs for our flyering. Introducing @baselshalgheen and @zeinadx8 who will present “Psychosis” at next week’s SHIFT, under the event’s theme of Accept Existence 🖤 Bassel Shalgheen was selected from our Open Call! He is a theatre-maker and dramaturg based in Germany. He has worked in Syria and Lebanon, and recently between Berlin and Leipzig. His work explores questions of purpose, meaning, absurdity, and the everyday life. His work in theater increasingly focuses on the body as the primary space for expression. Alongside her work as a tattoo artist, she has participated in projects across performance, video art, and painting. We are pleased to introduce @nadia.d.marcus as a performer for our next SHIFT event, next week Thursday 29 January! Join us for this fabulous and eclectic evening of performances Doors: 20:00 Theme: Accept Existence Nadia Marcus (*1993, New York City) is a poet, designer, DJ and co-editor of TABLOID Press, a publishing house and media imprint founded in Berlin in 2014. Her poetry, art criticism and lyric journalism have recently appeared in Ezio Gribaudo: Weight of the Concrete, Arts of the Working Class, The Ransom Note, and Edit. Marcus has participated in poetry readings and performances in a variety of venues across Europe and the US, such as KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin, DE), Haus am Waldsee (Berlin, DE), and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, DK). In the last years she has also exhibited visual works at SYSTEMA (Marseille, FR), Kunstverein München (Munich, DE), Mint (Stockholm, SE) and Felix Gaudlitz (Vienna, AT). We had the pleasure of doing a show on Refuge Radio earlier this week to talk about the latest edition of SHIFT: “Gathering in Resistance” happening today, Friday 18 July! We are collaborating with ASNAM أصنام to create a convergence of communities and, together, generate a shared space to listen, reflect, and uplift the voices of artists who embody all that we claim solidarity with. In a world undergoing profound transformation, it is more important than ever to seek out and affirm our collective unity so that we can navigate these times together. In this show, members of SHIFT and ASNAM will discuss the theme of our upcoming event, “Gathering in Resistance”, and why we find it important to centre intersectional solidarity in every part of our lives. We will also feature tracks from artists on our lineup and past SHIFT events, including Matto Zoppi, Secret Act, Luna Lias, Enana, and Sami. Check it out in our bio!
