This work is close to my heart , I self published this book in 2023. Began this work around 12 years ago . I had been away from home for a long time. Over the years., I became intrigued with the roles our maternal figures play in our lives and how we are shaped by them .
I believe it is a circle that’s just as vulnerable, as it is strong.
It’s been cathartic for me , looking at relationships that have been at my core. In some ways, this work has been an attempt to reconnect back with them and find my way back home and to parts of myself that I had lost. I wanted to look at memory, loss, and ageing as a woman.
In the book , I have used elements like fabric , stitching , pasted images and drawings along with the images in this book. I wanted it to feel like a family album .The drawings and tactile elements could sometimes convey emotions that maybe an image couldn’t . All these elements started becoming part of the narrative .
The books have in five cover colours reminiscing the colours of traditional kanjivaram sarees, that our moms wore in India.

One of the most Fun things I did in the last couple of months was my trip to Bhutan . It was a perfect first trip , a photography assignment 📸 for Bhutanese designers and a photo story for vogue magazine for the first Bhutan fashion week.

I imagined it would be 😍 the most wonderful people, so much warmth, came back making new friends . Thank you Kelly @manfrombhutan for a beautiful experience at the first Bhutan fashion week .So beautifully put together, creating the perfect harmony . It was great working with the talented designers and the most helpful local teams.

Kudds are a home away from home for Goan catholic male migrants for a monthly rent of 200 rs or so. They are dorm style affordable accomadation in the heart of Bombay.
In expensive and big cities like Bombay , these spaces feel like sanctuaries, lessening the alienation and displacement felt, providing these men with a sense of familiarity and brotherhood. I exhibited this work in January -25 at Artmusings gallery @artmusings99 in Mumbai .

I self-published this book in 2023..
I wanted to look at the intergenerational bonds we share with our maternal lineage and the roles they end up playing in shaping our lives.
I believe it is a circle that’s just as vulnerable, as it is strong.
I think I was hoping to find my way back home and to parts of myself that I had lost. It has our shared memories and our stories. The text interspersed through the work continues being an ongoing dialogue with me and my mom.
It is a memoir of photographs, drawings, fabric, stitch, pasted images, cut outs and text. I was hoping the tactile nature of the book slows down the pace and makes the viewer engage with the work in a quiet way. I wanted it to feel like going through a personal diary, a family album. I am interested in the stories that are born from the viewers perception, hopefuly encouraging the viewer to become a narrator.
I wanted to look at memory, loss , ageing and the silent role of women being the Family archivists.

In this series , we shot each other and I made our self portraits . The idea was to document us, through the changes that occurs over a passage of time in different phases of our lives and see how it evolves.
Both Lakshmi and myself , have been in front of the camera for more than two decades and have been shot by male and female photographer’s. I am intrigued by the Gaze, male , female or otherwise and how the subject reacts to the person behind the lens. Shot for Saviojon @saviojon
