Halden Bookworks is thrilled to host two photobook-focused AIR cohorts this year in collaboration with Offset Projects, New Delhi funded by Kulturrådet @kulturradet Our first group arrived last week and has been working away at their projects which we are excited to share with you. Ita Mehrotra @ita_mehrotra is working on a project titled “Forest Notes” for which she is using the professional paper studio at Halden to create a unique sampling of paper for her work. Fiber from the Van Gujjar pastoral villages in Uttarakhand she has been visiting since 2021, has been incorporated into the paper. She will lead a workshop with educators of this pastoral community to work further with the paper, before they are included in the final book. Yask Desai @peppersteakpartypie is working on “Ceasing To Be” which he has been gathering material for over two years. The paper he is making by hand at the HB studios uses eucalyptus bark inclusions from the area the photographs were taken. Yask will print images from the work on these papers. Nidhi Khurana @nidhik2 is working on “The Ghost Story”, a project inspired by real-life experiences while living in Auroville in 2013. The text in the book utilizes HBs huge type collection and letterpress facilities. Nidhi is spending her time setting metal type by hand and printing each spread for her edition. 📷 Yask Desai and Nidhi Khurana Our second cohort arrives next week. Stay tuned! #artistresidency #photobook #letterpress #bookarts #papermaking

A few snippets from the closing event " The Floor Keeps Count, " curated by Adwait, @iaghastwind , who generously gave his time to put this panel together. The video link with the entire talk video is uploaded on the artists website - , link in bio. The teatime conversation brought together Ananya Gautam ( Visual Artist ) @ananya.gautam__ , Dr. Ishita Dey ( Sociologist ) @deyspecial , and Sareena Khemka ( Visual Artist ) , moderated by Anshika Varma ( Artist & Curator ) @offsetprojects Held on Saturday, 7 March at Exhibit 320, New Delhi, the discussion engaged with multiple dimensions of memory, drawing into productive tension—and occasional convergence—diverse artistic and analytical approaches to its conservation and reconstruction. The exchange reflected on themes such as sensory labour, maternal bonds, the emotional economy of caregiving, the nature of grief, notions of inheritance, and the afterlife of objects that once functioned as coordinates within a personal web of meaning. ( Text by Adwait ) Image list : Image 1 - snapshot from the talk Image 2 - artists walkthrough of their practices Image 3 - audience snapshot during the talk Image 4 - Image still from Ananya's video piece, " Look WIthin Yourself, " 2023. Image 5 - Image from Ananya's artwork, "Ten Cowrie Shells," 2022. Image 6 - Video of the artists walkthrough Image 7 - Installation shot of Ishita's work displayed at the show titled " Smell Trace , " 2025. @exhibit320

The 2026 cohort of the PhotoBook A.I.R. program is here and begun! This year, we are excited to work with a compelling group of practitioners who will spend the coming months developing an artist book while working closely with @anshikavarma as they shape their projects and experiment with the possibilities of the book as form. For this edition of the residency, we are collaborating with the wonderful duo at Halden BookWorks @haldenbookworks As part of the program, the residents will spend two weeks at their studio engaging directly with papermaking and letterpress processes, exploring how material and structure can bring their work into the physical space of the book. The 2026 cohort includes Ananya Gautam, Dilpreet Bhullar, Ita Mehrotra, Kush Kukreja, Nidhi Khurana, Urna Sinha, and Yask Desai. Their projects move across the real, the remembered, and the mysterious, weaving together narratives that unfold through the layered possibilities of the book object. We look forward to sharing glimpses of their processes and projects as they develop over the coming months! @ananya_breathe @dilpreet_bhullar_026 @ita_mehrotra @kushkukreja @nidhik2 @urnasinha @peppersteakpartypie

We had the absolute pleasure to welcome our dear friend @andreathal_ to the studio during her first visit to Delhi in March. Andrea has generously brought some fantastic publications for our library and spoke about the different publishing based projects she has been a part of. Thank you so much for this Andrea ! and for the conversations that allowed us to understand the landscape of urgencies in Egypt and its neighbouring geographies. A big thank you to @prohelvetia_newdelhi for co-hosting an evening with us at the studio and making this a beautiful time. Andrea is an independent curator and educator whose work moves between artist-run initiatives, institutions, and experimental curatorial and publishing modalities. Her practice lies at the intersection of curating, art education, publishing, and the care and transformation of cultural organisations. She was the artistic director of Contemporary Image Collective – CIC, a Cairo based organisation with a special interest in the overlap of visual culture, artistic practice and critical discourse and continues to be a part of the organisation along with being a member of the Cairo Working Group of Another Roadmap Africa Cluster (ARAC). Before relocating to Egypt, Andrea ran Les Complices, a self-organised space located in Zurich, Switzerland. Andrea was visiting on a research trip supported by Pro Helvetia New Delhi, the Swiss Arts Council. The publications can be accessed at our library, visitation is upon appointment. Write to us on IG or email to schedule a time with us! A big shout out and thank you to @rana.elnemr for sharing her books with us as well!

DIY Weekend as a part of the 'Jugaading Through Life' exhibition by @southasiansalon at @offsetprojects Another super-talented artist, @fruitysideup , led a stamp-making and flipper zine-making workshop—guiding participants through playful mark-making, layering, and simple interactive formats. From carving stamps to assembling moving zines, the session was full of experimentation, texture, and hands-on storytelling. A few moments from yesterday’s linocut session at @offsetprojects 🪵 We ended up switching things around a bit from cyanotype to linocut, and it still turned into a really fun workshop… Carving, printing, figuring things out as we went, and everyone leaving with something they made themselves.
