In TWO WEEKS, join us for an evening at the Brooklyn Centre Firehouse (currently for sale), next door to SHED. We will host a one-night-only presentation of new works, Dunes by Jon Gott, on Thursday, May 14 from 5–9 PM. Concurrent open hours will be held at SHED. Consider it a poetic hijacking of a real estate showing. @jongott_

🗣️🗣️🗣️ Film & Video work FIVE (5) MINUTES AND UNDER — Submissions Are Open 🎬 SHORT CUTS is SHED Projects’ international short film festival centering experimental, artist-made films — and we’re officially accepting submissions for October 1–4, 2026. We have one requirement: 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝟱) 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝘁. We prioritize formally adventurous, non-commercial work and create space for artists at all stages of their practice — students, emerging, established, and everything in between. If it’s rigorous, poetic, strange, materially curious, or pushing form, we want to see it. The primary public screening will take place at the Cleveland Cinematheque at the Cleveland Institute of Art (Thursday, Oct. 1), with a secondary screening at The Capitol Theatre (Sunday, Oct. 4). The full program will stream on SHED’s website the following week. The festival includes a $1,000 cash prize (details coming soon). 🔗 Submit via the link in our bio or here:

The shotgun house is a residential architectural form most commonly associated with the American South and the Caribbean. Long and narrow, rooms are arranged one behind the other—traditionally with doors aligned straight through the structure, allowing air to move through the house in humid climates. The form carries layered histories tied to migration, labor, economics, vernacular building practices, and survival. While often associated with New Orleans, shotgun houses trace influences across Haiti, West Africa, and the broader Caribbean diaspora. akeylah wellington’s 𝓂𝓎 𝓃𝑒𝓌 𝒷𝓊𝒾𝓁𝒹! pulls from these architectural histories while reconsidering what building can look like today—using beads, craft materials, memory, and improvisation to think through home, ownership, and construction as both physical and emotional processes. On view through May 30. Open Hours (House) today: 12–5 PM 📷 image credit Jean-Marie Papoi @aiwellington

Tonight, Jon Gott opens Dunes — a one-night-only occupation of the Brooklyn Centre Firehouse next door to SHED. The work is quiet and somehow booming. Restrained. Bare. A love story told through orchids, architecture, atmosphere, and presence. Something about slowing down enough to notice the strange relationships between living things and the spaces we move through. Join us tonight from 5–9 PM as SHED and the historic firehouse become temporarily entangled. Cookout on the lawn with burgers by Elliot at 5:30. akeylah wellington’s my new build! remains on view at SHED. Special thank you to Edgar at Windswept in Time Orchids for helping bring this project to life. @jongott_

MEET SARAH PAUL [Lagniappe Bead Vendor] Sarah Paul (she/they) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator working across material, video, sound, and emerging media practices. Her work is informed by a background in mathematics and computer science and focuses on system-based approaches to art and design, spanning structural textiles, experimental video, installation, and performance. Alongside her studio practice, she designs curriculum, facilities, and frameworks that support interdisciplinary and experimental creative work. She is currently Professor of Sculpture and Expanded Media at the Cleveland Institute of Art. regarding beads: I’m currently obsessed with wet felting wool. The transformational power of sheep’s wool is thrilling. Water, soap, and bare hands convert wispy fibers into a boundless array of dimensional forms. It’s tricky to wet felt at a small scale, but I’m extremely competitive and love a good prompt. Half of wet felting is about engineering structure through strategic fiber layout and sequences of movement. For the beads in the Lagniappe Bead Shop, I devised a method so reliable that I’m already passing it on to students and friends. Now that I’ve worked out a straightforward wool bead, I want to make some outlandish ones too. I love art that blasts through function to arrive at something deliriously impractical. @thesoundofyourfabric

Thursday, y’all can catch us next door. We’re honored to be taking over the historic Brooklyn Centre Firehouse to present a special ONE NIGHT ONLY Jon Gott activation. Extending outward from SHED Projects, Dunes continues an ongoing inquiry into how domestic space can expand, seep, and reframe its surroundings—testing the boundaries between private and public, interior and exterior, built and organic. Join us for this event, burgers & evening open hours at SHED. @jongott_ 🧯🚒👨🏼‍🚒

MEET RACHEL ECKENRODE Rachel Eckenrode is a mixed-media nail artist based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally from Pennsylvania, Rachel began with a background in fashion—earning a degree in Fashion Merchandising from Indiana University of Pennsylvania—and has long approached style, texture, color, and adornment as forms of visual composition and self-expression. Now with over eight years of experience as a licensed nail technician in Louisiana, Rachel’s practice moves fluidly between salon work, film sets, brand activations, pop-ups, private events, and collaborative art projects. Blending precision line work, sculptural 3D techniques, hand-painted detail, and experimental uses of texture and color, she approaches nail art as intimate, wearable sculpture. Each set functions both as a cohesive composition and as ten individual objects. Rachel’s work has been featured in Allure Magazine and has appeared in productions including TNT’s Claws, Showtime’s Your Honor, and BET+’s Sacrifice. Her practice has extended into projects with Tales of the Cocktail, the Essence Festival VIP Beauty Lounge, Popsugar Play/Ground in Los Angeles, and numerous collaborations with artists, photographers, nonprofits, and community organizations. She has also collaborated with Jon Gott on multiple projects and exhibitions, including Foreign Correspondent at Sybil Gallery and SHED Projects’ EDITIONS fundraiser. From May 28–30, Rachel will be in residence at SHED Projects for a mini residency held during the closing weekend of Akeylah Wellington’s my new build!. During her time at SHED, she will lead workshops exploring nail art as material practice while also hosting a limited nail pop-up salon within the space. Workshops and appointments are limited. DM or email for more information. 💅🏽 @nail.fool
