Footage from our performance for @artifice.nyc at @onassis.onx 🐐 As a late addition to the program, @zoroze_ and I had one week to reimagine “Waltz of the Ibex” as a shorter piece that could work in the @onassis.onx space. The piece takes its name from the Alpine ibex, a mountain goat native to the French Alps. Their hooves have a hard outer rim and a soft inner suction cup that allow them to climb vertical cliffs. The climax of the piece was inspired by their mating season ritual - the males rear up on their hind legs and then slam their horns together, creating a thunderous crack that echoes across the mountain slopes. @mynameisdaixa as The Referee Videography + edit @effyinyadr3am

Last month, @zoroze_ and I premiered “Waltz of the Ibex,” a 30-minute movement duet, at @heat_index_ The piece takes its name from the Alpine ibex, a type of goat found in the European Alps. Because of its special hoof design (soft inner + hard rim), it can climb vertical cliffs and leap across wide gaps. During mating season, the males engage in displays of dominance by rearing up on their hind legs and then slamming their horns together, creating a thunderous crack that echoes across the mountain slopes. Zo and I collaborated very closely on the choreography, and used the ibex, among other characters, to explore the space between competition and symbiosis. Concept for an interactive installation. Two participants combine their body vertices to create constellations. Loosely based on the Greek myth, they become the Gemini twins and complete challenges to find the Golden Fleece. Touchdesigner + mediapipe.

Footage from my residency with @melissa__weikart hosted by @lasourisverte.epinal in Épinal, France. Melissa performed songs from their newest EP (Easy), while I performed MIDI-controlled visuals created as a generative motion system in @touchdesigner . We played 4 shows in 2 days as part of @lesimaginales festival. I played live flute for one of the tracks as well. ***** The motion system was inspired by the water imagery of Melissa’s songwriting, the Impressionist untertones of their piano composition, the nearby Vosges mountains, and two local cathedrals: Basilique Saint-Maurice (Neo-Gothic) and Notre-Dame-au-Cierge (modernist).
