How can one represent a quantum material? This other moment from our @sidimpro festival performance features a little more of the live vocal processing on my end. Something I really love with vocal processing as a creative proposition, any shift in pitch invites require some shift in vocals formant and even a little bit with how it changes over time. It's a reminder that sound, even when processed on a computer, is always a network of tightly related mechanisms. The idea that we change single, isolated parameters is a hard-wrought construction of computer instruments. But the invitation to handle voice in its totality, and not just through singular parameter changes is really beautiful and exciting. Anyways, I think in this reel you really just hear some boops and beeps, but this caption is a nice space to fill in some of the germinating thoughts. This performance is an improvisation between myself and @shadowwink_ , each of us using our own @c74connect Max patches.

One improvised moment from @sidimpro festival with myself and Xuanqi Liu @shadowwink_ . Xuanqi and I are performing on our custom laptop instruments. I am primarily live processing my voice, as well as a recording I made of a metal bowl. Pitch shifting, time stretching, and a little bit of machine learning using Data Knot's toy piano corpus. I have no idea what Xuanqi doing, but you can hear it here! lugubrious sliding between noise, tones, static and textures in rapid, rhythmic phrases.
