Documentaries are in bloom this May at Firehouse Cinema, as we complete Debra Granik’s CONBODY VS EVERYBODY trilogy, host three NY theatrical premieres (Doug Pray’s LOUDER THAN GUNS, Felipe Bustos Sierra’s EVERYBODY TO KENMURE STREET, Ro Haber’s WE ARE PAT) and honor Kimi Takesue and AAPI heritage month for a special screening of 95 AND 6 TO GO.

DCTV Workshops is in a moment of transition. As we close out the current workshop season, we’re focusing on the fundamentals, dialing in your camera skills from frame rates to composition, and breaking down what it actually takes to fund your work through documentary grant writing. At the same time, we’re also opening the door to what’s next: our Summer Season!
The new season kicks off May 30 with Lighting Fundamentals, bringing a refreshed lineup of workshops designed to go deeper, get more hands-on, and support you at every stage of the process. If you’ve been looking for a sign to start (or restart), Workshops is here for you!

Next in the Future of Film Series: Meet Becca!
Becca enjoys Youth Media because it teaches her the real world of filmmaking, giving her hands-on experience while helping her grow as a storyteller. Looking ahead, she hopes to study filmmaking in college and pursue a career as a cinematographer.
Becca started with us in Fall '25. Surrounded by friends, classmates, and family, she will be making her debut screening as a Filmmaker along with the rest of her cohort on June 6th at our very own Academy-Award qualifying Firehouse Cinema; one of the many unique opportunities given to our young creatives.
Since the war in Gaza and the expanding occupation of the West Bank, a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians feels more distant than ever. In this Emmy-nominated three-part series from The Guardian, reporter Matthew Cassel travels along the 1949 Armistice border, or ‘Green Line’, once seen as the best hope for a resolution. He meets Palestinians and Israelis living just kilometers apart, but shaped by vastly different realities.
Thu May 28, 7pm: Join us for this special one-night screening of ALONG THE GREEN LINE followed by a Q&A with reporter Matthew Cassel, cinematographer Ayman Abu Ramouz, and producer and editor Kyri Evangelou.

EVERYBODY TO KENMURE STREET follows the events of a 2021 Home Office immigration raid on Kenmure Street in Glasgow's Pollokshields neighborhood at dawn on the day of Eid al-Fatir. Local residents gathered to prevent the detention of individuals, with hundreds surrounding the Home Office van. Through crowd-sourced footage, archival material, and dramatized scenes with Emma Thompson, the documentary presents a chronological account of the protest.
The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award for Civil Resistance. Screening Fri May 22 — Thu May 28 with Q&As at select showtimes. #DCTVFirehouse

“Music on Screen — Latvia / Ukraine / USA” thank you New York! 👀
What stayed with us after the evening was not only the films, but the conversations around them! How documentaries and music can shape memory, identity, and ultimately freedom itself.
A full house at DCTV, meaningful exchanges, and a beautiful mix of artists, filmmakers, institutions, journalists, diplomats, and members of the Baltic and Ukrainian communities in the United States, including @blackroosterfood who brought the rye bread 🍞
Huge thanks to DCTV for hosting us once again, and to everyone who helped make this evening possible: Avantis Latvia, Young Media House, Young Media Sharks, Ilona Bicevska, Jonny, Pedro, Jesse, Francesco, and our wonderful guests Uldis Cekulis (VFS Films) and Justīne Kulakova Sypniewski.
Grateful for all the amazing feedback and for everyone who joined us in New York!
