Making space costs money. We do it anyway.
Shadowbox was our first answer to rising costs and the high barriers that keep experimental work from finding a home. Skin and Bones is the next chapter: built specifically for indie film and the people who make it.
Our doors aren’t open yet. But our mission is already alive.
Join us in building it. Link in bio → email list + more.

We’re inside the space.

We met in a movie theater line in 1997. Twenty-nine years later, we’re building one.
After 15 years of Shadowbox, we’re taking the next step to keep experimental art in Durham.
We’re raising $50,000 by June 7 to build the bones of a new theater on Parrish Street.
Your donation will fund: 🎥 a fancy projector 💺 seats 🎨 branding 🛠 and will allow us to finish the space
Help us build it—link in bio.
Join us Thursday April 30th for COOLBOY’S TAPES VOL. 4: MIDNIGHT EYES at @shadowbox_studio ‼️ FREE TO ENTER, DONATIONS FOR SPACE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. FREE POPCORN, SELTZER AND CANDY!
COOLBOY’S TAPES is a monthly watch party series where I share some of my favorite tapes from my personal VHS collection, and release some art (usually clothing) loosely inspired by those films. I try to pick movies that arent necessarily the most rare or sought after by the VHS collector community, but instead are ones I hold dear and are usually more “overlooked” or “underrated.” This time is no different, stay tuned to my stories to see what we are watching this time around.
Many thanks to Shadowbox Studio and @enthusiastsays for helping me put this together.
