After three years, we’ve reached the final issue of ‘Beyond the Bricks,’ a publication series created in collaboration with @sgforfws to shed light on the lives of migrant workers in Singapore. Our last issue is a special one dedicated to our friend @rubel_arnab , who has been instrumental in connecting us with other migrant workers in this series. He is now battling incurable cancer. Despite the tough news, he’s still bravely advocating for workers’ rights and hopes Singapore can create a better system to support workers facing medical challenges during their time here. We’d also like to express our gratitude to @rubel_arnab for using his voice to bring our communities together as the founder of @migrant_cultural_show_sg , @migrantlibrary and his love for our country. We’re grateful for his lasting impact and send him all our love ❤️ To read the entire publication, click the link in our bio or visit: beyondthebrickssg.com/home/issue_10 This special edition was designed in collaboration with @vanessa_ban #studio29sg #sgforfws #DesignSG #migrantstories

@rubel_arnab , one of many who helped build Singapore 🇸🇬, has an incurable cancer. But in the face of bad news, he’s fighting for his life, and speaking up about worker rights. He hopes Singapore will be able to develop a system and framework to better support workers with medical issues which may surface during their time here. Click the link in bio to learn about Rubel’s journey to date. We’d also like to thank @rubel_arnab for using his voice to knit our communities together as the founder of the @migrant_cultural_show_sg and for his love for the city! You’ve made your mark ❤️🫡 and we wish you well ❤️❤️❤️ With many thanks to @studio29.co and @vanessa_ban for the design of our final issue #singapore #foreignworkers #advocacy

Over the last 2 years, the teams at Studio29 and SGforFWs have been working closely together, to produce ‘Beyond the Bricks’; publications written and designed by volunteers, spotlighting different migrant workers in Singapore and showcasing their diverse stories and backgrounds. In that time, we have also been developing and designing a digital library to house these stories and we are very proud to share that the site is now live! /home Website Creative Team: @Angelinalourdes @sabrinamnoor Publication Design Curated by Studio29 Issue 1 In Conversation with Madhavan Ram (@ramasamy_madhavan ) Written by Melody Zaccheus (@marlodee ) Designed in Collaboration with YABAI YABAI (@yabaiyabai__ ) Issue 2 In Conversation with Md Mamun Ali (@mmaun_12 ) Written by YS Designed in Collaboration with Farah H (@frafrafrah ) Issue 3 In Conversation with Hossain Khan Written by Jia Min Designed in Collaboration with Sabrina Noor (@sabrinamnoor ) Issue 4 In Conversation with Jasmin Uddin (@jasim_235 ) Written by Angela Macasinag (@foundmyhonour ) Designed in Collaboration with Angela Macasinag (@foundmyhonour ) Issue 5 In Conversation with Md Mamonur Rashid (@rashidmdmamonur ) Written by Yeo Sam Jo (@samjoexotic ) Designed in Collaboration with Allison M. "In the past, some of my helper friends were not even allowed to dress better than their employers… People would look down on us in malls, as if we couldn't afford anything. It felt like we were being discriminated against because we were helpers. But I think now there's less of that, people respect us more." Hands up if you’re in your 30s. In her 33 years of life, Geryl, a Filipina based in Singapore for 12 years, has gone through much heartbreak. She shares her story with us in our 7th edition of Beyond The Bricks, including the unimaginable pain of missing her mum’s passing. (Read more at beyondthebrickssg.com — link in bio.) Please give Geryl’s story your support by sharing the link with each other: friends, family (your folks and kids etc), and colleagues etc. Thank you Geryl for sharing your story and experiences with us. #singapore #lifeinsingapore #community #migrantworkers #stories #media Volunteers: Writer KG Designer @uhmuhnuh Website creative direction and design by @studio29.co in collaboration with @sabrinamnoor
