“Perfect View” What’s an ocean view worth? To many people and locals it’s priceless, to some the chance to see the ocean from their home is worth millions. Some of us are happy with the views and photos we have an opportunity to capture on our phones when we visit the beach. A lot of people in Hawaii are willing to pay for that view. Sometimes those views were priceless. We built a home or bought a condo not knowing that in the future a large building might take its place. For many locals in Hawaii that reality is unfortunate. Years of having an ocean view only for recent developments to take it away. Whether you’re looking at the ocean view from your home, or photos you have taken on your phone, nothing beats actually being there in person with the ocean waves just crashing at your feet. Nonetheless, the “perfect view” is now considered a luxury and is worth millions in Hawaii. That’s something that should be priceless. This modern day artifact represents what once was and now is. Past and present. -Duende

Back in 2019 I created collages on slate rock. 2026 I decided I’m going to make an entire series of Waikīkī modern artifacts. This is a little taste of what I’m working on. Takes modern elements of surf culture on the South Shore of Oahu, muscians that live in Hawaii and blends them with an esthetic that looks like a modern artifact. I plan on attaching wired head phones to every local musician piece I create. Hope you enjoy part of the process. Can’t wait to share. -Duende

A dress and a wave. Was browsing through the new @modernluxuryhawaii magazine and I found a dress pattern that felt would vibe with this beautiful wave photo. Will turn into another postcard. Anyways hope everyone is doing well in Hawaii.

I used to scroll through social media thinking, “When will it be my turn?” I’m sure a lot of you can relate. Well, as you may or may not know everyone is on their own journey. Some are lucky to get there faster than others. Some may have to wait longer because your journey is as unique as you are. We were born into this world unique so there’s no real reason to try and compare yourself to others or try and do the same things as them. Be original and not a copy. Stay blessed my friends. Remember with enough passion, dedication, discipline and yes a bit of luck. You will get there. You will reach your goals. I’m living proof that accomplishments come in waves and I’m here to ride the journey. Because that’s the most satisfying part. Your friend, Duende

Aloha from Paradise, created this collage last night with a couple images from a local magazine. I really enjoy flipping through magazines and seeing what I can create with the limited pages. Things that inspire are fashion, nature, the ocean, and a bit of Japanese esthetics.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone I know on this platform. I appreciate you guys and the ones that have stayed through all my artistic adventures. I know I have taken a break from collages but that’s because what I want to challenge myself with is out of the comfort zone. That’s the only way to continue to get better at what I do. Thanks for being patient and thank you for being supportive with bartending and my fatherhood. Im excited to start working on my new ideas for my artwork. Stay tuned and stay blessed. Your friend Duende.
