Maricel (@maricels.space ) is a multimedia artist working between the US and UK, exploring digital identity and the ways technology shapes culture.
For Softer Harder, she presents a personal essay on how early online “safe spaces” gave young girls freedom to explore sexuality and identity. Drawing on her own experience alongside thinkers like Laura Mulvey, Donna Haraway, and Judith Butler, the work is both intimate and critically sharp.

Chloe Borthwick (@absolutely_relentless ) is a London-based comedy writer and performer in drag, film, stand-up, and sketch. She was recently a finalist of LIPSYNC1000, performing her infamous impersonation of Justin Bieber. She makes shot-for-shot remakes of film scenes and music videos with long-term collaborator, Meg Hodgson. And she writes a monthly newsletter on Substack (UNCALLED-FOR), where her piece for Softer/Harder was born.
A chilling account of using a Nokia 7610 to film herself masturbating for the first time, My First Orgasm (and other films) plays out every final detail, weaving in and out of the popular memories and influences that informed the act.
@daisycarina____ has been writing poetry since childhood, shaped by the empowering voices of Mary Oliver, Christina Rossetti and Maya Angelou; giving rhythm and voice to her lived experience.
For Softer Harder, she reflects on coming of age in the “wild west” of early internet where curiosity, desire, and danger all intertwined. Her piece unpacks digital girlhood, predatory encounters, and the messy reality of discovering sexual identity online.
