You definitely been here before! When you joined the crew At age 16 you were teaching us how connected you were to the universe. We added your uncompromising relentless 3 wheel motion of freestyle , word play , cleverness and imagination . Your personality cartwheeled your way into our wheel house.. Freestyle Fellowship., A magic that captured all of us in unison and brought along a movement of like minded HipHop progressives together forever. Thank you brother! The year was 1981 , before the crack epidemic. Sugar Hill gang’s Rappers delight and Micheal Jackson “Rock with you” was in major rotation on your 1580 Kday’s AM dial. All the kids in the Jungles (Baldwin hills) August st , came out to see the bigger than life child sweetheart @kimfieldsofficial who at the time was one of the hottest TV stars in the country (Facts of Life) Popped up for a meet n greet that had the neighborhood scrambling to get a autographed picture. These impromptu pop up’s with stars of that time were always common and orchestrated by the neighborhood Ice cream truck owner/ photographer Delroi “Candyman” Whitaker @whitakerimages who frequently brought everyone from Todd Bridges to Gary Coleman whom all lived overtop the Jungles, Baldwin Hills dubbed The Black Beverly Hills. This was our upbringing! LA’s Westside , where community activists ,(RIP T. Rodgers BPSN, One arm Muhammad 🕊️ect) musicians, actors , dreamers and the working class lived. As a kid in the Jay’s karate school was mandatory! 4th grade Hillcrest elementary I remember we had to take out the trash for the elderly on Saturday’s throughout the hood. The tips we made paid for the zoom zoom and whams whams (candy, soda pop ect) from the Candyman. I.E black dollars recycled. #Innercitygriots
