The means of production, control and ownership of rights, royalties and all else governing each individual artist's career is theirs alone. We come together to form a structure and outlet to present those creations and achieve a communal method through solidarity to carve a more unified means of navigating an industry and world still under the grasp of capitalism where the means of production too often remains in the hands of the few acting as dictatorial authoritarian governors making overarching decisions as to the welfare of the many. Belmont Community Free Library got a refurbish and fresh paint job! It’s back up and stocked with zines and titles from fam at @microcosm_pub . It was torn off the wall, door broken and overhang snapped off so we took the opportunity to do some needed repairs and updates. As of December 17th the BCFF is being forced to be taken down under threat of fines per the citation issued by PP&D as we don’t have the space needed to meet the cited requirements and we’d already received an extension. We are looking for a new home for it.  If you’re interested in hosting the BCFF reach out to us directly here. That for our time building and hosting it at SGC Haus we were able to be yet another ripple in the ever-expanding sea of our incredible free fridge and pantry community is a blessing and we hope that we will simply be its first home before it moves on to its next. Link to the full SGC Blahg post with all event details in bio. ——- Originally this event was planned as a benefit specifically for the Belmont Community Free Fridge to raise $1,600.00 needed to pay for and challenge PP&D’s citation against it due to a complaint filed by a community member. This is the second complaint filed, the first with PBOT. After we had worked through the PBOT citation and moved the fridge and housing from its original location with a written guarantee it would be safe from further fines or citations this second complaint was filed against the fridge in its new location. See: NIMBY. In reviewing our options to dispute the decision we came to the conclusion that we couldn’t justify raising and spending that much money even if it resulted in delaying their decision and potentially affording a couple of additional months of the fridge’s existence as-is. We don’t have an alternative space to move the fridge and housing on the property to meet the requirement as cited by PP&D. The citation deadline for removal or “compliance” is December 17th. So we decided to pivot and make this very last minute benefit and fundraiser for a community free fridge general fund to be distributed to any fridge hosts who currently need to purchase materials, fridges, etc, as well as to community members who want to build and host new fridges/pantries. As the city continues to escalate sweeps while winter sets in, there will be an ever increasing need for cold weather supplies for our neighbors living outdoors. Coupled with the Fed’s very intentional refusal to fund SNAP benefits, everyone needs to eat. Food insecurity of course is not new and will continue under capitalism even after SNAP is fully funded again. It’s the cause of requiring programs like SNAP in the first place. But we take care of us, we protect us. If you have new or gently used items to donate, are in need of supplies, would like to contribute food to the mealshare, are in need of a fresh stack of hotcakes or just want to be in community and meet neighbors, we’re hosting a mealshare and cold weather supply collection at SGC Haus.
