As the 'Into The Lead' leadership programme for the screen sector, which we announced earlier this year, concludes, Screen Alliance North is celebrating an exceptional group of SME leaders. These leaders are transforming the scripted screen sector in the North of England by navigating industry changes, leveraging new technologies and nurturing positive workplace cultures. You will remember that we recently shared words from the two Manchester-based leaders: Susanna Boccaccio of Brilliant Trees Media and Garry Paton of Finite Productions, both of whom greatly enjoyed the experience. Applications welcomed for ā€˜ON-SET’ AFRO HAIR and MAKE-UP FOR DEEP SKIN-TONES Masterclass Sessions A major coalition of UK broadcasters and industry partners has joined forces to launch the Textured Hair & Make-up for Deep Skin-Tones Accelerator, a new initiative from Dandi, created by the team behind TriForce Creative Network (the TCN). 71% of actors from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds still report departments unable to meet their HMU needs — undermining wellbeing, authenticity and production value. A new Accelerator programme in association with Screen Alliance North, Screen Manchester and Liverpool Film Offcie centers on professional masterclasses in partnership with the renowned Kevin Fortune Hair Styling Academy. Two regional programmes: ā€˜ON-SET’ AFRO HAIR and MAKE-UP FOR DEEP SKIN-TONES Masterclass Sessions will be offered in the North West in June. These North West Masterclass sessions will take place at Space Studios Manchester. The hair masterclass is scheduled for June 1st–5th, and the make-up masterclass is scheduled for June 15th–17th. Applications for the North West cohort are now being accepted at /jobs/Careers. Applicants can apply for either the hair or make-up course or both courses.

As we celebrate Earth Day this week we are focusing on our sponsors and the steps they are taking to make our Industry more sustainable. Today we focus on Location One who says: "There's a net zero mission underway (ultimate goal: save the planet) and we're one of many taking on the challenge." The Location One team has committed to accurately measuring their carbon footprint and implementing a transparent, science-based plan that achieves net zero emissions. Other elements to consider along the way include looking for opportunities to return valuable nutrients to the soil (like wastewater and materials) and eliminating the use of single-use plastics. Their approach is simple: Step 1: Measure the emissions footprint Step 2: Work intensely to reduce emissions. Step 3: Neutralise emissions that can't be avoided by investing in projects and initiatives As a first step in Location One's emission reduction, they have switched to 100% renewable energy for all their depots. Other CO2 saving initiatives are in full swing, including vehicle fuel efficiency and a fleet renewal programme. Earlier this week the company hosted a training day across all branches (pictured) focused on the new hybridised generators and large batteries that Location One now provides to productions The team now also offers towable Hybrid generators which go up to 100KVA batteries if required perfect for Unit Bases of all sizes, 10KVA powercubes and/or 5KVA voltstaks which can be used as a replacement for the 7kva camera truck generator, they also provide hybrid light towers. As well as this there’s the offer of an eco-pod that allows for full recycling and will send you a report highlighting recycling levels across the different waste streams, these reports can then go straight to Albert. All Location One vehicles run on HVO. You can keep an eye on the Location One Blog to keep up with their great work in this important area of business.

This week we celebrate Earth Day and simultaneously highlight our brilliant sponsors who are rising brilliantly to the challenges faced by today's Film and Television Industry. Today we look at @facilitiesby_adf and its approaches to Sustainability. The team invests heavily in its fleet to ensure it is clean and efficient, meeting Euro 6 emission standards and following the Albert framework. They continue to investigate new technologies to move towards their long-term net zero ambitions, reducing emissions wherever possible, and making informed decisions that protect the future of our industry and the communities we all work in. Some of the measures the company has successfully achieved to further their advancement is: A 43% reduction in emissions per employee versus the 2022 baseline target. This is well ahead of their commitment of achieving 50% by 2030. Increasing the number of their hybrid generator fleet which is 100% HVO-compliant, has resulted in a positive year-on-year increase in HVO uptake from diesel. This is also supported by installing HVO bunkers across all 4 main operating depots. The Company continues to lead with other means of supporting more sustainable practices across facilities, such as their latest hydrogen trial just completed in partnership with Sky. Sustainability runs across their entire group, not just within ADF but across @locationoneuk and Autotrak too. Each business plays a key role in driving their agenda forward to being a more responsible supplier. Thank you Facilities by ADF - congratulations and good luck fulfilling these very admirable ambitions.
