We sat down with music video and commercial #cinematography expert @scottcunninghamdp ASC to explore how he created the look for #blackpink music video for Jump and his experience with the #sonyvenice2 Utilizing the Sony VENICE 2, the cinematographer brought his visual style to the streets of South Korea, melding blue screen and VFX with in-camera technical stunts to craft big-budget visuals on a music video budget. “The reason I shot with the VENICE 2 on this project was, for me, it’s the most flexible of the camera options that are out there right now,” Cunningham said. “I can shoot large format and get 8.6K resolution.” “We shot with the Leitz HUGO lenses, which are a large format lens, for our prime work. For our zoom work, we were shooting Angénieux zoom lenses, which don’t cover full frame. But on the VENICE 2, there’s plenty of resolution if I go into a standard Super 35 mode,” Cunningham added. “So, I can shoot that camera on large format and quickly swap over to Super 35, and I still have plenty of resolution to give post-production choices and give editorial choices.” #venice2 #musicvideo #filmmaking #filmmaker #cinematography #videoproduction #cinematographer #dop

ASC x ShotDeck Lookback: Kendrick Lamar - “HUMBLE.” Los Angeles–based cinematographer Scott Cunningham, ASC @scottcunninghamdp spent two decades producing music videos and commercials before transitioning to cinematography in 2015. Just two years later, he shot Kendrick Lamar’s Humble (2017), directed by Dave Meyers & The Little Homies. The video’s memorable imagery — Lamar in papal robes, stark fisheye close-ups, and bold tableaux — earned wide acclaim and won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Music Video. Cunningham has since built a diverse body of work and is a two-time ASC Award nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Music Videos: Little Simz’s Gorilla (2024) and Jennifer Lopez’s Rebound (2025).
