Meet the Dancers // Ethan Schweitzer-Gaslin Ethan is a NYC based freelance dancer originally from Western Massachusetts. After graduating from North Carolina School of the Arts, Ethan danced with Oregon Ballet Theatre and then joined Ballet Idaho where he spent 8 years. From there he moved to NYC where he has been dancing with AVID since its founding. We can’t wait for Ethan to continue dancing with the company this season! spring! earth! water! I decided to join @nationalwater_dance this past weekend for the final year of their “movement choir” and do a little moving and grooving down by the water in my neighborhood, more as a way to connect to and thank this beautiful place that I love than anything else. seeing the water here reminds me to breathe a little deeper, and in a way ecosystems like this are also how our planet breathes. this place also represents our responsibility to take care of the world around us. I wanted to do a little semi-structured semi-improvisational meditation on cycles of breath and water in our world, and based on the phrase material that all dancers performed simultaneously and the beginning and end of their dances on Saturday! lots of fun things happening with @aviddanceco lately! anyone who knows me or our work knows how exciting it is to have @dochoreography creating a new piece for this group of artists (especially with original music by @kontrabasskeb ), it was fun getting to spend some time in the mountains developing and sharing this work with people out in Colorado a couple weeks ago, and now we get to share what we’ve been up to with New York! I want to make sure I have a chance to mention how special it was to join the @dancespatrelle family last weekend in memory and in celebration of (and in dance) Mr Francis Patrelle! I’m so grateful I had the chance to meet and work with him on his delightful ballet Double Martini when we began preparing for this performance last year before his passing, and in getting to know the crazy characters of his “Gilbert and Sullivan, The Ballet!” I feel like I got to know him even better too! this experience performing on this stage and being a part of this festival these two weeks has been such an incredible honor and pleasure! I have loved getting to know (and dance) this ballet and all the work of Gerald Arpino and finding the Zah in my dancing! wow so I guess somehow I have now been performing with @arcdance in Seattle for ten years! I didn’t even realize at first, but once we started thinking about it made everything this season and the shows this past weekend so much more special! it’s been a whirlwind end of spring/beginning of summer so far, and I haven’t had a chance to share much about this @aviddanceco show and didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, but I do want to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for this whole group of people. I found out I would be performing this ballet somewhat unexpectedly and it was amazing to have a team rally around me and lift me up and focus on what I had to offer in the role and not get caught up in all the hard parts. And if there is anyone doesn’t already know how incredible @lizzieeekanning is then let me just tell you how much she inspired and helped me throughout this process!! I got to dance in so many fun pieces and I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without these people, and the best part is we get to do it all again soon!
