Presenting youuuu my diploma project „armour of care“ at the @design_investigations class of @dieangewandte Armour of Care is an artistic installation exploring strategies of perceiving and dealing with unpaid care work. Reacting to current reactionist portrayals of care, both online and offline, it takes the process of garment making as a guideline on ways we in which we could interact with care and domesticity as individuals. At the beginning of last year, we began collaborating on our project Sonic Stretch . What started as an exploration of textile, sound and movement developed into an instrument that can be played individually or collectively. By using force on textile surfaces that are connected to an Arduino by conductive yarn, the object produces sounds that are never constant, and directly linked to the amount of strength put into the distortion of the fabric. Framed by a metal construction, the textile elements get activated through pulling, pushing, turning and stretching. The four Lycra textiles can be used either alone or together, creating space for a dialogue between the individual bodies, the processed force, and the material itself. Furthermore, active listening and observation of each others movements plays a key factor in experiencing this instrument. Sonic Stretch was created in collaboration with the University of Applied Arts Vienna @dieangewandte and the Institute for Composition, Music Theory and Music History at the University of Arts in Graz, @kunstunigrazkug and was presented at MUMUTH in Graz.
