As an artist, I’ve realized that creation often begins with inner conflict. Too many ideas, Too many possibilities, Too many versions of yourself speaking at once. This article is a reflection of that space. The Whim Of Becoming, Photographed by @deonnboadi , 2026. The Whim of Becoming exalts the fire within, the surge of passion that flashes red through every vessel and compels one to choose oneself when the inner voice grows too loud to ignore. The series explores womanhood as an embodied transformation shaped by instinct, intuition, and cyclical renewal. Red functions as both alarm and birthright, a corporeal language conveying rage, creation, vulnerability, and power. The imagery balances control and surrender, revealing both the visible self and the self forming beneath the surface. Becoming is visceral and restless, a declaration that womanhood is not fixed but continually ignites. For Black women, the most daring act can be the act of choosing oneself. The work emerged through a collaboration with women from Sasu's local community who helped to reimagine selected pieces from the kantamanto market that they subsequently tailored and reimagined. The skirt, belonging to Sasu’s aunty, anchors the series in lineage, inheritance, and intergenerational presence. Community shapes the process: the women who contributed their time, presence, and intuition are embedded in the work’s narrative and material foundation. The neck jewellery, reimagined from a traditional funeral fascinator, transforms a symbol of mourning into one of evolution and renewal. Written By Javine Adu-Gyamfi. SALT AND LIGHT is a project that explores the tension between being seen and choosimg what to keep to yourself. Documented in a landscape that feels open and exposed, the work places the body in a space where nothing seems hidden because the relationship between salt and light is mostly metaphorical. Salt is about preservation and memory. It holds onto what would otherwise decay or disappear and also keeps traces of time, texture, and experience. Light is about revelation and exposure. It makes things visible, but in doing so it can also flatten or erase subtle details. The veiled figure moves through this space without fully giving itself away. The covered face isn’t about hiding but about deciding what remains private. Here, being seen isn’t automatic; it’s something shaped and controlled. What is shown matters, but so does what is held back. This context also shows us how Salt tries to keep things as they are (or were) while Light tries to change how things are seen in the present. Postcards from @apam.senior.high.school Float in March, documented by Me📸 On my recent visit to Apam for a shoot at location salt was being extracted closer to my younger brother’s school I got the chance to photograph the moments from the float. I really enjoyed doing this, being able to be one with them in the moment was really special and it gave more reason to keep taking these photos.
