Oh nothing, just thinking about the vibrancy brought to Downtown Fairburn that is, Alleywave: A Forest of You 🎨🌳. During Georgia Cities Week, @dashboard_us commenced the unveiling of this year's alleywave art — visually led by artist Sanithna Phansavanh (@sanithna ). The theme ‘A Forest of You’ is inspired by shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” which is a Japanese practice of immersion in nature, meant to boost mental and physical health 🤗. This installation will be up until May 24, 2026, so make sure you head on over to 📍 26 W Campbellton St, Fairburn, GA 30213 to see the beauty for yourself! 🌐 To see more photos from this event, visit > Residents > Event Photos #OneFairburn #FairburnGa #dashboard #communityart #communityevents

Now on view 🌈🌿 ‘Alleywave: A Forest of You,’ designed by Sanithna Phansavanh (@sanithna ). ‘A Forest of You’ draws visual inspiration from the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” a concept introducing calm through immersion in nature. Phansavanh’s designs bring this practice to downtown Fairburn, providing passersby a space to pause, reflect, and breathe beneath 119-feet of suspended panels suspended in the alleyway, personalized by returning community contributors Black Girls RUN!, Arlington Girl Scouts, and the New Beginnings Senior Center. On view through May 24, 2026. See more on ‘A Forest of You’ via our 🔗 in bio. 🎥: Footage and cover image by Crystal Alexis @crystal_alexisss

As a teenager, my art heroes were people like Ingres and Dalí, draughtsmen who rendered realism with impeccable skill. Highly representational work, specifically in drawing, painting, and sculpture, was “good” art to me, while abstract art and conceptual art were quickly ignored. But, over the years, that narrow perspective began to shift and broaden until, eventually, much of my art inspiration now comes mostly from abstract artists. It’s a funny thing to look back on your inspirations in that way. . I didn’t truly appreciate Ellsworth Kelley until a few years ago. He’s always been there in the periphery, lauded in all of my art history books, but I never really “got” him until I started making flower drawings. That’s when I realized how gorgeous his plant drawings are AND that he had already achieved what I was trying to do with my own work—simplify and get to the essence. Seeing the evolution of his work, and understanding his creative decisions, became a reference point in helping me process my journey as an artist. . This painting is a love letter to him and is currently on display at @abvgallery for the “Refresh” exhibit, which ends this weekend. . “Dear Ellsworth,” acrylic on canvas 15x30 in. . #art #Atlanta #painting #EllsworthKelly

EXCITING NEWS 🎉 For the 4th iteration of Alleywave, we’ll be working with Atlanta’s own, but internationally known artist Sanithna Phansavanh (@sanithna ). Sanithna Phansavanh (suh-neat-nuh pon-suh-von) is an artist living and working in his native city of Atlanta, Georgia. He divides his efforts between gallery shows, public art, and art direction. Sanithna was raised in Atlanta as a first-generation American to Lao refugees. The blending of cultures, and their respective beliefs, helped him to find commonality in diverse perspectives and to celebrate the beauty of distinctions. East Asian philosophies, Buddhism and Taoism in particular, often combine with American inspirations, such as Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, to inform his work. Ranging from small pencil drawings to large-scale painted murals, his art has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with notable, local showings at the High Museum of Art, on the Atlanta BeltLine, as a part of the Living Walls Conference, and through the City of Atlanta’s Public Art programs. With an interest in the cycles of creation and existence, Sanithna focuses primarily on the human figure and nature, often emphasizing vibrant colors and expressive mark-making. ✍️  Sanithna will be designing thematic templates inspired by by shinrin-yoku, “forest bathing”—a Japanese practice of immersion in nature—for the Fairburn, GA community to personalize, and transform into the vibrant panels featured within Alleywave. Alleywave (2026) will be on view starting April 24, 2026 in the @cityoffairburn . Visit our 🔗 in bio to learn more about the artist and activation. 📸: 1) Headshot of Sanithna Phansavanh 2-6) Artwork by Sanithna Phansavanh

Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (02/02) The monks had reached the temple earlier in the afternoon, but I could only attend the evening service. Once there, unfortunately, everyone was informed that the monks had requested time to recuperate. In hindsight, this proved to be a much more appropriate ending. Instead of being swept up in commotion, I was able to enjoy the moment quietly, sitting softly in a warm, familiar reminder of community and tradition. . Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan, in image 01, is the abbott of Wat Lao Buddha Khanti. He was hit by a car in Texas, at the start of the Walk for Peace, which resulted in the amputation of his leg. He had reunited with the other monks earlier in the day.

Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (01/02) I didn’t have plans to rejoin the monks, but, as I considered how they were going to Wat Lao Buddha Khanti, a temple that my mother frequents, on New Year’s Eve of all days, I just couldn’t deny the poetry of one final experience.
