🗣️🗣️$390M is coming to Bushwick to fix the chronic flooding! This is the largest investment in Bushwick’s infrastructure since before the 1970’s. I am proud to have secured this investment through strong collaboration with @nycwater , Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi, @kampbrooklyn and through the ongoing support of our overlapping elected officials. This victory is for the Hope Garden tenants, school workers, small businesses and homeowners who have struggled with this flooding for decades. Thank you @elpuentepresente @riseboronyc @senatorjuliasalazar @assemblywomandavila @rep_velazquez @nych2o @bkcb4 and many others for your collaboration and advocacy. Bushwick is on the rise! 🙌🏽

I was unsuccessful in telling everyone that we won’t know until all the scanners reported, but…alas. What an incredible 18 months it’s been. Thank you to everyone. More appreciations later, but for now: Thank you team!!

This week, I was proud to stand in support of the reintroduction of COPA, a powerful piece of legislation that would give more communities the opportunity to take collective control of their buildings, organize, and sustain themselves through community ownership! This bill should’ve never been vetoed by Eric Adams in the first place, and I’m glad to see Mayor Zohran Mamdani already voicing support for bringing it back. Now we need the City Council to pass it once again and take this all the way. It was inspiring hearing from community land trusts across the city including @eastnewyorkclt , @westernqueensclt , @ehebclt and others, all doing the work to push affordability and build long-term community power. Big shout to @neweconomyproject for bringing everyone together!! Huge respect to @sandyforcouncil21 for not only introducing this legislation the first time, but continuing the fight to bring it back again. Proud to also have her as my slate mate for State Committee!! If we want a Democratic Party that truly fights for housing justice, collective ownership, and working people, we have to organize for it. Vote June 23rd and remember early voting starts June 13th! #TeamAD57 #TeamAD54 #BrooklynCantWait

Thursday was the 6th annual Muslim Day at City Hall. I am so proud to stand with this coalition, my colleagues and all New Yorkers who believe in a free, multiracial, multicultural democracy. @mcnny @emgageactionnynj

COPA is back! Excited to be reintroducing the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act today alongside 22 co-sponsors. New York City desperately needs more tools to preserve and rehab the affordable housing stock we have. Passing COPA is key to doing that. Let’s keep people in their homes, stabilize our neighborhoods, and keep housing affordable by passing #COPA now!

What's that you say? A museum in East New York dedicated to the history of seltzer? Well just ask @nyccouncil member @cmsandynurse about it. She took her entire staff to the @brooklynseltzermuseum to learn the origin story of this iconic NYC drink. Afterwards staffers got to spritz each other, drink sharp seltzer, and, as a special treat, sample egg creams. #seltzer #eastnewyork

On Thursday, @maketheroadny sent Jose to the retirement home. And gave Arlenis her well deserved flowers! Congrats to both Jose & Arlenis for decades of service to not only Bushwick, but to this city. 👏🏽💐✊🏼

Rain or shine, I’m all in for racial equity. That’s why I stood with @cacfnyc to demand our AAPI communities get their fair share of our public dollars. I am proud to represent a growing South Asian and Asian population. Our office has worked to ensure their inclusion through our discretionary funding, but it’s not enough. All communities deserve safety through access to health, housing and education. It’s time our city invests more in AAPI communities.

Thank you to Congresswoman Velázquez @rep_velazquez and Congressman Jeffries @repjeffries for committing nearly $2 million dollars towards the resurfacing of the Broadway Corridor! Our community deserves a safe, functioning Broadway and I commend our Congressional leaders for this investment. Now DOT must do their part and fix Broadway now!

The last 48 hours have been exhausting. And they have also shown me exactly why this work matters. What I saw in North Brooklyn these last 4 days was neighbors showing up for each other in the middle of the night, without hesitation. I am grateful to work and live amongst so many leaders, organizers, and everyday people who refuse to let fascism become normal. An organized community is what defense against ICE looks like. It’s just real people protecting neighbors even without knowing them. That’s it. Immigrants are our neighbors, our family, and the heart of Bushwick. And we will keep fighting to make sure they feel safe, cared for, and celebrated here. Seeing this level of solidarity keeps me hopeful and energized. Thank you to the North Brooklyn coalition for your clarity and your resolve. Thanks @alexkrales for these 📸

Bushwick is very clear: We want ICE out! 🧊❌ I am grateful for the New Yorkers who showed up Saturday night after hearing that ICE was at Wyckoff Hospital. Our community is an immigrant community. Bushwick is organized and we will fight for our immigrant neighbors. See ICE? Call the hotline: 229-304-8720 #iceoutnyc
