It’s THE definitive ALBUM RELEASE Post!! My new record In Season is out in the world, & I’ve never been more proud of anything.
Classic album cycles are a bit passé, so I figured I would get the full album out in the world & share a whole bunch of album accompaniments over the coming months (music videos, merch, additional release shows, and more surprises (!) are on their way!). I just wanted to mark that IN SEASON is real - you can listen wherever you listen - and that I’m so grateful to everyone who made it possible.
This album was mostly written during the pandemic, thanks to the magic of a classical guitar that
@universeofannie brought to into our apartment when we lived together. I struggled, trying to loosen up my hard-handed playing to suit this soft-stringed instrument, and the songs that emerged suited that struggle: tender, but uncertain. longing, without direction. yearning for the present and past, all at once.
@jojoworthington , who produced the album, helped me build a special little world for each of these songs. We started with sessions in Guelph, Ontario, where we got an inter-genre, intergenerational group together to record. Suddenly, these songs had the impeccable bass work of
@jeffbird6231 , the just-right drumming of
@zachcockburn , Anita’s gentle banjo, Liv’s tender pedal organ.
@neatcazzola ,
@livcazzola (
@thelifers ), and
@universeofannie recorded three-part vocal harmonies all together in the cozy B-room of Scott Merritt’s humbly magnificent CottaGe studio in Guelph. JoJo and I played the vibraphone together, rekindling my obsession (vibes permeate the album - we didn’t plan it that way, it just happened!). The CottaGe was where I first recorded as a lil’ teenager in the band Bedsheets, and it felt so cozy to return to it.
