Here are some photos of me in Australia. Nitro cold brew, swimming pools, you get it. This is how I tell you my band @basset.theband is doing a Kickstarter campaign to fund our new album, Human Nature! This is a bizarre and stressful thing to do but these are by far the best songs we’ve ever written and we want to do our best by them, so if you want to be a part of that, that would be pretty cool. First 24-48 hours are super important so we’re working our little butts off to get this off the ground.

The songs on our coming album “Human Nature” are about finding beauty in the spaces where the real world and the imagined world almost seem to touch. It brings together our love of folk traditions with myth, magic, and characters with supernatural powers. In the folk tradition, it will also stand as a reflection of the times, as it becomes impossible to ignore the heaviness of the world around us. Songs about hunger and labor; about power and loss; about who gets protected and who doesn’t.

9 years ago, when I was still in university, I was asked to set some lyrics to music for the final song of a musical called “A Perfect Bowl of Pho”. The show has grown over the years, featuring at fringe festivals and touring, and last year they put together an original cast recording, and asked me to sit in on guitar. It was beyond cool to see how far this has come since we were in school, and to see some old friends who are just absolutely crushing it out there. The recording is out now, including “Coming Home”, for which I wrote the music, with Wilf Moeschter tightening up the arrangements. Keep an eye out for the next run of this fantastic musical.
This project will always be close to my heart for so many reasons, and I’m so grateful to @vietnampimpin and @wilfredmoeschter for bringing me into it.

They’re true trailblazers—the first on the Eastern part of the fence to take traditional music into bold, new directions. Without them, Polky wouldn’t exist. They inspired us, showed us the way, and now we get to share the stage with them!
