Water erosion at its finest here ✨ If you’ve ever looked at my sculptural forms, (some may refer to as doughnuts) and wondered what they’re all about, this is it. They’re created with the feeling of rocks being eroded by the power of moving water, specifically the sea. Rock formations and breakaway boulders or pebbles, continually caressed by the moving tides. Sometimes gently, others with more ferocity. I find it so soothing and grounding to sit and observe, to admire and gaze through the crevices and holes that appear, revealing the sweeping water. I hope that when you take one of my sculptures home, you too will feel soothed, grounded and connected to the ocean and coastline that they’re inspired by. Have a beautiful Sunday folks 🧘‍♂️

First post in some time, anyway, I’m back at least for a moment…. Here’s some footage of me turning the bottoms of the 6oz cups I make for @origincoffeeroasters with some conveniently speeded up moments so as not to put you all to sleep #pottery #potteryvideos #pots #turning #trim #potteryprocess #wip #processvideo

Hello 👋 I’m here for my 6 monthly grid post, or at least the that’s how long it’s been since I last did one, I wonder if anyone will see this?! It’s been a busy 6 months, moving house and closing down both my studio and shop/teaching space in Falmouth, with a new focus to set up a functioning pottery at home in my basement and garage. I’m finally back up and running, albeit in a very functional but not aesthetically pleasing space! I’ve spent the last 3 months making and delivering some outstanding (thanks for your patience) client projects. This has all meant that my participation in winter markets and the usual activities this time of year is not an option for me. I have however managed to make a very reduced selection of works to pop online for a small winter shop update. So if any of you are still following, despite my presence, there will be a limited shop update on Dec 12th. If you’re already subscribed I will send an email reminder including a nice juicy bonus in the next couple of days. If you’re not subscribed already, then why not, you’ll get one email a year 🤭 For those you who keeping messaging, there will hopefully be one or two leftovers from recent Origin drops, if you’ve not bagged yourself cups from their online update

An end of an era. Hard to believe it was around 4 years ago when I took on a studio @morgansfalmouth I have really grown in this space, as a maker and a human being. Thanks to all who have graced the space with their energy and support. It’s been a tough week packing down a studio, letting go of old works, smashing failed pots and a lot of cleaning and moving tons of clay and equipment. Special thanks to other studio holders @jayetayler @juliaflorenceartist @marthaholmes_studio @studio_1850 and @ellagriffee_studio thanks for the chats, feedback and the memories! Big thanks to Ann and Tony who created this wonderful space. Crazy to think about the thousands of pots to at have been made here and sent out into the world, and now it’s just a beautiful light filled space once again. I’ve curated a few images of some moments in the space 1. The space as I found it and how I leave it now for its next resident, I may have left a small trace 😬 2. A wonderful throwing workshop with @zelpacker and @nelly.packer 3. My first week or so in the space captured by @tor_harrison 4. Sweet Senga in her favourite chair 5. Oooof this building was full of delicious light 📷 @tor_harrison 6. A shelf of pots, I wish I had a record of just how many have been produced in here 7. Shadowy sculpture in some morning light 8. More pots 9. Developing the balance series, in a borrowed moment in @studio_1850 studio upstairs 10. A rare moment sitting still captured by @daisywingatesaul on a visit with @lodestarsanthology

For the next two months you can find a little collab that’s come out of left field between @loveday_distilling and myself. Loveday are an amazing local gin and rum distillery, and are an exceptional example of great ideas, passion and hard work. Founded and nurtured by childhood friends Daisy and Chloe here in Falmouth. It’s an honour to share a space with them, and I’ve had a lot of fun photographing the products alongside my work, the light bouncing off of the nectar filled bottles are a refreshing addition to my earthy muted tones! Find some treasures until Sept 6th at 23 High Street, Falmouth

Amidst the relentless rain recently, there are the occasional and essential sunny moments, at which point everything stops. I get outside, or if my camera is near, I spend a moment capturing the sunny corners of the studio, where pots are momentarily bathed in delicious golden sunshine! I love the way these ochre tinted bowls really hold that golden hue, now let’s see some sustained sunshine please 🙏

A lovely sunny moment in the studio packing up a commission for a 12 piece crockery set including dinner plates, side plates, tea and espresso mugs and somewhere off camera is a large water jug and bowls. While I can happily work away all year creating my own work, it’s always a pleasure to make for you guys to order. Whether it’s for home or a cafe/restaurant project, I’m up for it so get in touch!

I feel like all I’ve been posting this month is process. That’s because I tend to post authentically, in the midst of what I’m doing, which hopefully gives a true sense of what I’m doing in the studio and where I’m at both mentally and physically. So much of this space is planned out methodically, almost contrived and of a time gone past. I’m not much of a planner, I really do try to live in the moment, which has its pros and cons of course! Anyway, to totally contradict what I’ve just said, because life’s just one big contradiction, here’s a slide show from a shoot I did last summer with some sculptural forms just before they were delivered to @northcoastasylum If you are an interior designer, gallery owner or just an individual interested in these type of works, I would love to hear from you. Very open to creating bespoke pieces for any space With thanks to @studio_1850 for the use of her dreamy studio

Some outtakes from unloading a bisque firing last week. Slide for details Glazing each piece is ongoing, kilns reloaded and firing, the studio is in a lovely flow state with mostly client work, but a few pieces coming along nicely for the shop next week and some background development. My wrists are very sore thanks to a bout of Tendinitis 🙄 1. Packed shelves with various projects 2. Black clay cups for @oma.london and there fast approaching launch, cups and pourers for @origincoffeeroasters 3. Faceted tumbler bois for my own update, can’t wait for these 4. Lightly chattered lid detail on a porcelain Gaiwan prototype 5. Groupie

6oz & 8oz coffee cups for @origincoffeeroasters or alternatively known as a flat white & latte, (other drinks are allowed inside them) cups. Hand blended clays create the outer unglazed surface, which makes them nice to hold, and keeps you connected to the earth. Tactility in pieces is so important to me as a maker, it’s not just a vessel for liquid, it’s a feeling you get as the user. I hope the feeling carried to you, and it’s not just me!

I always love clay in this stage, pre fired and bone dry or what we call green ware. It’s got a lovely warm tone and has a dusty pastel texture. It’s also the point at which the clay is about to be committed, a point of no return, so the decision to fire or not fire a piece is vital at this stage. I’m not sure if I’m the only potter who does this, but I always have a quiet moment after loading the kiln with these green ware pieces. A moment in which I give thanks to Gaia, (Mother Earth) for the access to this wonderful material and the skills I have been gifted in order to manipulate the material into functional and decorative forms which can be used forever more. Call me what you will, but I firmly believe she offers protection to them on their final voyage ✨
