We celebrated the new year with a baby – Ruth Adeline Beebe was born on 1/1/26. It’s been a sleepless blur of a month, but we’re in love. We hear the first 35 years are the toughest.

The 2026 Creative Capital Award, renowned for its recognition of original, ambitious project proposals for new artistic ideas, will support the creation of 49 new works in visual arts, film, dance, theater, music/jazz, and literature, as well as technology, multidisciplinary, and socially engaged forms in all disciplines-providing the awarded artist up to $50,000 in unrestricted project funding, plus professional development services and community-building opportunities. Join us on this Saturday for [Project Creatine], an autobiographical, one-act opera of perseverance and radical self-definition that combines opera and drag in a totally new way. The show was born to uplift the talents of Jordan Weatherson Pitts, a professional operatic tenor, whose voice has graced the stages of the New York City Opera, France’s Got Talent, Lincoln Center, the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Royal Opera Liege-Wallonie. But opera, a form mired in tradition, presents rigid limitations for roles based on gender and historical typecasting. Seeking a more liberated expression, Pitts began performing in drag, under the name Creatine Price, an homage to the groundbreaking Leontyne Price, the most prolific black American opera singer in history.  [Project Creatine] tells the story of how Pitts finds a way to break the rules meant to govern his artistry and identity. In a moment when many are forbidden, often by law, to be who they are, [Project Creatine] makes visible and—profoundly audible—one person’s journey out of tragedy and into the fullness of themselves. This innovative show offers audiences an emotional narrative in which they will find surprising moments of both grandeur and relatability. I am beyond excited to share that I have received a Live Arts Boston grant from @bostonfdn to create a new opera with @lex_brown_ and @jordanwpitts / @creatineprice — I am truly honored to be included in the incredible cohort of artists LAB has awarded grants to this year, and I am immensely grateful to have the opportunity to work with such phenomenal collaborators. Over the next 18 months, I will participate in professional development seminars, and Lex and Jordan and I will develop a new work that will be presented in Boston in June 2026. Thanks again to the wonderful and talented members of @lilithvocalensemble who brought “The King’s Boat” to life last night @ssu_arts - as well as Lisa Putukian, Michelle Markus, and Shu Satoh, our fabulous woodwind players that rounded out the King’s Boat band - what an adventure it is to do a 25-minute performance of a brand new piece of music - I am so grateful for this experience! 🕊️

Here's the inspiration for my new piece "The King's Boat: A Funeral Elegy," which I will premiere with @lilithvocalensemble on Saturday, April 27th at 8:00pm at the Recital Hall at Salem State University. This 1773 broadside, preserved in the archive @peabodyessex , documents the tragedy of the King's Boat, which wrecked off Fort Sewall in a squall that June. The verses shown here form the lyrics for my music.
