We’re Grammy nominees! We have such an incredible team that has made everything possible. @michaelnicolascellist is the collaborator of our dreams; we are so grateful for his gorgeous playing on this record! And a huge thanks to @jonestabrooks and the team at @emithastudios for believing in our work and supporting us so completely. Our biggest thanks goes to all eight of the composers - you’ve made this project what it is. @bpwenzmusic @jakelandaucomposer @evbvd @markadamomusic @wliverman15 @jenniferhigdon1 @davidlangmusic @_klavia ⁣ Reaching this milestone I’m reminded that our venture started with just the two of us throwing ideas back and forth across the apartment and toggling between five different to-do lists. It’s become such a central part of our friendship over the past few years that we have to remind ourselves to take a day and 𝘯𝘰𝘵 talk about it. And I’m reminded constantly how lucky I am to be working with my best friend. ⁣ ⁣ Our commitment to new American art song is at the heart of 𝘐𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦, so it feels like both a culmination and a beginning. There is so much to explore and create in this corner of music, and we are so thankful to the Recording Academy for recognizing this journey! @grammys #grammys

We hope you’ll include IN THIS SHORT LIFE in your GRAMMY® listening this season for best classical vocal solo album. ✨ Danny and I have been working as a duo since 2019, and this album marks our first release together: a reflection of six years of collaboration and shared growth. The music comes from composers we’ve worked with closely, both individually and as a team, and each piece carries our commitment to interpreting new works, breaking boundaries in American art song, and building meaningful artistic relationships. We are so proud to present a project that holds so much of our creative soul. 1st 📸: Emil Cohen FYC link in bio ✨

We had a beach walk in Malibu last week. Callie and I were continuing a days-long burping contest. My parents, because they have no other choice, just shook their heads and laughed. The sun was setting, and we moved between each other, between conversations, so gracefully. I don’t know why, maybe it was the fluidity of the moment, or how we’ve been burping at each other like children for decades, but it hit me, without ever really clocking it, that my family has learned to radically accept the parts of each other that are fixed, while making room for the parts that are still becoming. It is such a grounding, expansive feeling. I’m not sure how many people ever get that.     Dolphins showed up right before the sun disappeared. It was hard to tell exactly how many there were, maybe three, but the dumb romantic in me thought it should be four, like us. I made everyone put their phones away right at the end because those memories are best left to how they make you feel, not how they look. It was gone, quickly, like the sun, and I knew right then that of all the big and glamorous and momentous reasons we had gone out to LA, that quiet moment was going to stick with me most.

Well y’all, I finally got to see Lady Gaga live and all it took was getting nominated for a Grammy.     I am so proud of our work and am relishing how it feels to have it honored by such an incredible community. This project succeeded because we chose to celebrate that the musical landscape we work in is vibrant, alive, and ever evolving. I love being a part of it.     Congrats to everyone this weekend. It was an honor getting to share in your joy. And a massive thank you to all of you that supported us, whether this weekend or at any point along this beautiful journey.*     (*MVP Award goes to my sister who was told we couldn’t take food into the evening ceremony so she stuffed the pockets of her gold gown with chicken nuggets)

I’ve written, of course, about this album before: but I couldn’t be happier for Devony, Danny, Michael, and my extraordinary composer colleagues represented on this collection that In this Short Life has been nominated for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for this season of the GRAMMY® Awards. With all respect to the other entrants in this category, on listening (and relistening!) to these performances, I am, again, struck by the artistry, the passion, the intelligence, and the precision of their work here; there’s not an extra—or an absent!—accent, or silence, in these artists’ interpretations of this music, and their conviction sweeps all before them. If this nomination does nothing else but alert more listeners to the talent, and grace, of these artists and composers, our work will have been done here; but honestly; listen, and be changed. #ForYourConsideration #GrammyAwards @grammys

What makes our album 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 so special is the beautiful collaborations with 8 incredible composers. Our work with Mark Adamo has been especially meaningful—not only is his music magnificent, but he’s become a dear friend over the past year and a half. What might surprise you: my relationship with Mark began 15+ years ago, when I performed Meg March in his opera 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 at Pepperdine University. His musical precision, enthusiasm, and theatrical drive inspired me as a student to keep collaborating with composers ever since. My alma mater Pepperdine University wrote a wonderful article about our GRAMMY® nomination and my musical journey with Mark (link in bio). @pepperdinemusic @pepperdine
