THE SUNSHINE CAFÉ LIVES 🌅✨
Last weekend, the lights came back on inside one of Margate’s most iconic spaces.
For the first time in years, guests gathered inside Dreamland’s long-closed Sunshine Café - sharing stories + sunset sea views while @mark.o.brien cooked up something seriously special.
Honestly, it felt pretty magic.
BUT… we’re not done yet 👀
The Sunset Dinner Series returns for one final weekend:

Expect long tables, seasonal cooking + the rare chance to dine inside a space usually closed to the public.

Can’t believe it’s already been that long, feels like we just opened yesterday….

It’s not easy in this industry, so a massive thanks to all the guests who have kept us going… the repeat visits.. our big supporters & those that show up, when we really need it!! We love you! Like really really we do!! 💚💚💚

What’s going on…
- After dinner loud fun music & drinks!
- The tombola is back, so everyone who comes, wins a prize!
- Lucky dip wine night, pick a colour & your glass is £5… pick a bottle & it’s £19/£25 a bottle, but guaranteed to be worth double!
- Some silly other activities too, maybe the return of free tattoos, if we’re asked nicely!!

*Who’s putting the event on?
It’s being organised by @kerbfood & they’re using the sunshine cafe as a venue in the dreamland building. It’s not being run by dreamland.
*Why is it so expensive?
Firstly it is expensive, we don’t set the price & all we can do is make the food amazing for you. We will (at best) be breaking even on this event… the ticket price is party due to making an event in a space that needs everything doing to it.. health & safety protocols, power, satellite kitchens & more surveys than you can imagine.. This is to our understanding, not a commerical exercise & the whole event will probably just cover costs. To reiterate we know it’s a high cost, we aren’t charging this & will only get a proportion for the catering part.
*What’s the purpose of it if no one is making money?
For us, we have wanted to do something in this iconic space for years.. before we even opened we approached Dreamland to put on a pre opening launch/supper club here. But it couldn’t happen at the time. For Kerb I’m told it’s showing what can be done in this space & hopefully creating awareness to activate in future! We hope one day permanently!!
*Will it be worth it?
We think so… not many people will get to do this. It’s going to be pretty unique. The food on both weekends will be great. There’s special surprises for ours.. not many better views in Margate..
Something special is happening inside Dreamland’s long-closed Sunshine Café.
First opened in 1935 as part of Dreamland Cinema’s grand seaside vision, this vast Art Deco dining room was once alive with people - gathering before and after the show. Then the doors closed, and the room fell quiet.
You might recognise it from Empire of Light - where its faded beauty, original chandeliers and vintage interiors lit up the screen. Since filming wrapped, it’s sat silent once more.
Until now.
For two weekends only, the Sunshine Café comes back to life for the Sunset Dinner Series.
Long shared tables. A restored piano by the window. Golden-hour sea views. Two brilliant guest chefs taking over the kitchen for a dining experience unlike anything else on the coast 🌅

This is a fleeting chance to dine inside one of Margate’s hidden spaces, a room steeped in cinema history, reopened just long enough to make new stories.
