House of Creatures, opening at @alcova.milano next week We are thrilled to introduce our exhibition curation of contemporary Slovenian design at Milan Design Week 2026. Including pieces from Soft Baroque and Sari Valenci, the curation brings together a loose group of Slovenian design objects from the last five years. The objects each have a specific presence, partly given by their mutation and mixing of familiar conventions. In this spirit, their beauty can feel strange, unfiltered, or uncanny. These objects might not be convenient or seamless, yet these perceived difficulties can be their power; they receive our conscious thought and imagination. If Columns Could Talk Jože Plečnik artfully designed and deployed architectural columns throughout the city of Ljubljana. Some are load-bearing, many are not; often they’re disguised sewage pipes. They can be lampposts, statues, and way-finders. Plečnik desired to express humanity itself in their forms, and played with proportion and placement to mark spatial significance to the user. In this way, architectural form and composition are used to actively address a persons presence and intelligence. Regardless of their material origins, humorous ornament, or functional indeterminacy, today these columns are companion-like; anchor points in which the city changes around. This project extends Plečnik’s crowd of unusual columns with three contemporary additions, all made from rain guttering and other standard material. They bring increased legibility to the architectural wit and richness of Plečnik’s Ljubljana, while generating some public awareness and imagination into less popular sites.
