‘They took her skull, gathered her bones as trinkets, wood from her coffin whittled to a walking stick’ ‘Lilias’ tells the story of a woman accused of witchcraft, tortured, shaved, stripped and deprived of sleep, she died before she could be burned to death. As consequence, she could not be buried on consecrated ground and thus was buried at the shoreline of Torryburn bay under a slab of stone to prevent her from returning to torment the living. Her body was later uncovered and pieces of her skeleton were sold as souvenirs or displayed in exhibitions. The whereabouts of her skull is still unknown. My semi-improvised work explores Lilias’ soul in a state of eternal unrest. Her story, with phrases taken from her confession and the names of other women accused of witchcraft, is fragmented, signifying her displaced skeleton and emulating the hysteria and purgatory caused by the torture and sleep deprivation she experienced. I will be performing this at @a_woman_becomes_a_wolf a beautiful evening curated by @scarlettwoolfe at the George Tavern 16/02/2025!!

A couple of pics from my performance in the world premiere of ‘TRACES - Tales from the anechoic chamber’ composed by @caddickhelen on 20/12/2024 at St. Andrew’s Holborn. I had the incredible opportunity to perform with @orchofthecity on Friday night with live sound collected by @hummakessounds and @caddickhelen which was then fed live into the orchestra by @hummakessounds !! Performing in the role of the ghost of Sarah Whitehead, a 19 year old girl in the early 19th century whose brother, who had worked for the Bank of England, was killed for fraud at the Old Bailey. The news of her brother’s death was kept from Sarah and so she continued to search for her brother, even after she was eventually told, she continued to return daily to the bank to ask for her brother as her mental state deteriorated. Her ghost is said to haunt Bank station.
