Larry very much considers himself an artist's muse. He already has two beautiful portraits, thanks to @ruby_chroma and @carrie_stanley_artist (see following pics). Now he's moving into his abstract phase and loves to hang out in the studio of @lindawhaleyart , hoping to inspire her (at least that's what he thinks). Linda's studio is open for @oxfordshireartweeks every day until Sunday. Come and see her beautiful paintings, Larry will be waiting to greet you. (And afterwards pop in and see me, my letterpress workshop will be open to visitors too.)
Our house is full of family things handed down, gifted, found, resurrected and our decorating style hasn’t changed in 55 years. I think it has a name now— grandmother’s house maybe? I guess that makes me the grandmother! When I walk around I see our Grandmothers Hattie, Lula, Sallie, and Bessie. I see sweet Auntie Gail everywhere. I see Mama and Real MaMac, my Daddy and the best FIL anyone could hope for. I see my brother everywhere in his art lovingly placed all around. In photos I share our family history with the grandchildren, where their names come from and whose lives contributed to who they are. In old cross stitch pictures and needlepoint pillows I see pretty young girls sitting by a fire talking and planning for weddings where those things will become part of a hope chest. Some weddings happened some didn’t. That’s the stuff of family stories verified through letters written long ago and read 100 years later. No, our style won’t change. I’m surrounded by memories and love.
I forgot to post anything at the time but a month or two ago marked 5 years since I first moved to Florence. Not to romanticise, it’s had its ups and downs in spades, but I can honestly say i love it now more than ever and barely a day goes by where I’m not struck by how lucky I am to call it home. I hope i can do so for another 50. Here’s some random snaps from over the years

The beginnings of a Federico Fellini summer ft. @ruby_chroma ✨✨
From the last day of the summer term, my fourth and maybe last at @charlescecilstudios . As Charles always quotes T.S. Eliot, “in the beginning is my end, in the end, my beginning.”
To the ever unfolding future, now still in Florence 🖤

A mix of First Year and Foundational Term students work on their initial sight-size portraits from life in the ‘Cast Room’. Having spent the term developing their eye and mastery of chiaroscuro under natural light by working on week long life-size charcoal drawings from plaster casts students are given an introduction to charcoal portraits to set them up for the challenges they will face when they return.
