16 May Mutual Aid Update:
Our weekly food drives across Prince George’s and Montgomery County are fully volunteer operated. This week, volunteers successfully provided essential groceries and diapers to 150 local families, each navigating the difficult reality of losing a family member to ICE.
Endless gratitude to the volunteers who showed up and stepped up this weekend! @pg_irc@moco_irc and thank you to @rt1mutualaid for bringing the food and making this space possible. 🫶🏽

Busy weekend! Thank you everyone for all of your help…175 bags of groceries to ICE impacted families, 30 to a local school, and a market for a local ESOL students! PLUS, thanks to @jakeya_hq for every mom on our list!
Every week we are amazed by the generosity of the communities in the Rt 1. corridor and beyond. You folx are AMAZING! This doesn’t work without every donation, every like, every share, and every time you tell a friend.
@pg_irc , @moco_irc and @rt1mutualaid food drive success! Every week we hold three separate food drives across PG and MOCO, rallying our incredible community to provide essential groceries and diapers for 150 families—all with children and all navigating the impacts of losing a family member to ICE.
This week was extra special! Our volunteers distributed Mother’s Day gift bags to honor the resilient moms in our program. 🌸
A huge thanks to Indivisible and Route 1 Mutual Aid for bringing food and making this event happen.
We do this because we refuse to let our neighbors be forgotten. We do this to prove that when families are impacted, our community doesn’t just watch—we rally. We show up to ensure no one is left behind and to provide the tangible help that every family deserves.
Huge thanks to the 85+ volunteers who stepped up this weekend to make this happen!

The call to action for May Day-- No Work, No School, No Shopping -- was a tough ask. Most people could not simply walk out of work today.
But the unfortunate truth is that things could get worse. We know Trump would happily steal the coming midterms. If that happens, a Saturday protest won't be enough. An economic blackout is a tool that has worked in other countries to stop a would-be authoritarian.
What if you found your people--fellow activists, co-workers, neighbors, family--and made a plan for that possibility?
We need to build union power, strike funds, mutual aid and more. We need to keep protecting and supporting neighbors being targeted by ICE and the Trump regime.
I find the work ahead intimidating, but I know that there are so many good neighbors and great groups out there already getting started. Many of them are right here in Hyattsville -- Indivisible Route 1 Corridor, Route 1 Mutual Aid, Rapid Response Choir, PG Immigrant Rights Coalition, PG Democratic Socialists, and more.
Let's start figuring it out together. Go find your crew. And reach out to me if I can help.
Signing off for the week! Thanks for sharing it with me.

A little update from last Saturday’s food drive! We’re still at it every weekend…and our community is still SHOWING UP! We had a few weeks with low donations but all we had to do was ask for a little help. Check out all of that food!

Every donation matters. Every share helps.
This is what community looks like, neighbors showing up for neighbors.
@ccsitalks is the Lead Domestic Violence Agency in Prince George’s County, the operator of the only year-round overnight shelter for families in the greater Metro DC region, and one of only six regional backup centers for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
This building is also home to @rt1mutualaid , which assists dozens of immigrant families, through weekly grocery deliveries supported by in-kind donations, partnerships with local organizations, and donations from community members like you.
We asked you to help us build a mountain of rice, dried beans, and tuna…and you definitely did! Thank you to everyone who donated food, time, and energy this weekend to the cause. Today, our community came together to feed families at our HQ and protest No Kings in America (with a little music) on Rt 1. How did you participate today?
