A big thank you to the University of Brighton for inviting me to talk about my practice to the Fine Art and Photography students at the Sallis Benney Theatre last week. I had the opportunity to speak about the history and contextualisation of my projects and how they connect through recurring themes of migration, representation and belonging. I traced a circular path through my work, beginning and ending with the photographs I made in Brent, work that still shapes how I see and think today. Along the way, I touched on my projects Distant Relations, Coastline, The Garden, Lockdown and Revival, London and spoke about how photography connects all of us through people, place and memory. Also such a treat to hold tutorials with the students and talk about their wonderful work.

Repost @denisepitter Thank you to the brilliant and very talented singer Denise Pitter who accompanied me to deliver a talk at Tate Britain as part of their ongoing ‘The 80s: Photographing Britain’ exhibition, along with Grace Lau, Jem Southam, Mitra Tabrizian and Rosy Martin. Denise brought out some of the community and gospel themes in the work that I am currently showing. When we launched this work in Brent we brought music to the opening, so it was wonderful to have the opportunity to do the same at Tate Britain. The show is ongoing, over 70 photographers, lots of work to see! @lanoblegallery @jasminechohan

Delighted to say that I have a selection of work in the upcoming Tate Britain group exhibition ‘Photographing the 80’s’, from my series ‘Revival, London’. The exhibition and publication is about the development of photography throughout the 1980’s. Huge thanks to curators Jasmine Chohan @jasminechohan and Helen Little. @tate Exhibition runs from 21st November to 5th May 2025. from the Tate website: Explore one of the UK’s most critical decades, the 1980s. This exhibition traces the work of a diverse community of photographers, collectives and publications –creating radical responses to the turbulent Thatcher years. Set against the backdrop of race uprisings, the miner strikes, section 28, the AIDS pandemic and gentrification – be inspired by stories of protest and change. At the time, photography was used as a tool for social change, political activism, and artistic and photographic experiments. See powerful images that gave voice and visibility to underrepresented groups in society. This includes work depicting the Black arts movement, queer experience, South Asian diaspora and the representation of women in photography. This exhibition examines how photography collectives and publications highlighted these often-unseen stories, featured in innovative photography journals such as Ten 8 and Cameraworks. It will also look at the development of Autograph ABP, Half Moon Photography Workshop, and Hackney Flashers. Visitors will go behind the lens to trace the remarkable transformation of photography in Britain and its impact on art and the world. The exhibition is curated by Yasufumi Nakamori, @nakamoriyasufumi former Senior Curator of International Art (Photography) Tate Modern, Helen Little, Curator, British Art, Tate Britain and Jasmine Chohan, Assistant Curator, Contemporary British Art, Tate Britain with additional curatorial support from Bilal Akkouche @bilalakkouche Assistant Curator, International Art, Tate Modern; Sade Sarumi @sadesarumi Curatorial Assistant, Contemporary British Art, Tate Britain and Bethany Husband @bethany_husband Exhibitions Assistant, Tate Britain.

I’ve been working recently on a new set of prints, commissioned for the Autograph @autographabp collection, with Victor @viktor_vrab one of the very talented printers at Beyond Print @beyond_print in Bethnal Green. Lovely to have the opportunity to reinterpret older work with new archival processes. #autograph #distantrelations
