@calgaryjusticefilm was grateful to have been invited by @banffforpalestine to host a CJFF justREEL community screening of the @voiceofhindrajab on Friday. The @canmore_public_library was a wonderful space for community to gather to witness this tragic true story. As with all justREEL screenings, CJFF ensures members of community, those with lived experience, and others are provided the opportunity to share their voices with the audience. This particular film leaves one speechless and in tears for quite a while after the credits roll, so we held each other in silence before starting the panel discussion. Thank you to CJFF Board Chair, @bassemhafez_ and Executive Director Rowan Fisher (@rowfishverve ), for being there and participating in the discussion. @queerartsyyc hosted a fantastic evening last night of authentic and joyous storytelling for the opening of the 28th - yes 28th!!!!! - annual Fairy Tales Film Festival! Brendon Many Bears @brendoomageddon / @brutal.bear welcomed us all with his usual sparkle, and started us off with beautiful stories of divisiveness leading to togetherness. @jeromyyyc gave one of the most inclusive, rallying, and authentically generous speeches I’ve heard in awhile - there were tears in eyes and cheering. Quite unexpected and moving. @argintinahailey gave, as always, the audience everything we could have wished for! @starwalkerfilm was such a delightful musical drama that beautifully follows an Indigi-Queer Two-Spirit drag queen finding a loving chosen family and true self-acceptance at a Vancouver drag house. @shonethistle and the entire CQAS team made everyone feel so happy to be onsite together. So special to be able to have shared a few moments of connection with @mvielle , @thekylemarshall , @kennaburima , and @wilmerphotography . An afternoon with @womeninfuture ! Thank you, Candida, to you and your team for a fantastic event! Such meaningful conversation about giving back, leadership, creativity, the film industry, and building community. It was a beautiful moment of sharing and being supported by so many. This is a story about lifting each other up and crafting community together. Roxanne Molnar @leadersinframe joined @calgaryjusticefilm as a volunteer (she is now an amazing board member and Chair of our Fundraising Committee). She introduced me to Jill Maria Robinson @imherewithmagazine at an @aspiherwomensclub event. Jill then so generously and wonderfully adopted CJFF, did an incredible spread on CJFF and my newbie role as ED - which she has been championing ever since. Jill then brings me along to Monique Barrie's White Hat Award ceremony, where @mbarrie and I finally meet in person, and Jill introduces me to Candida Tocci @candida_prez_womenin and @lesiatbear . As a result of this chain of kindness and generosity, I was invited to this @womeninfuture table and have now so fortunately met @marsbar_mb , @danijel_slisko and @doc_diana_monea - among so many others! This is an example of just one little chain of hundreds in the room yesterday. Be brave, be generous, connect others, and step into your spotlight.
