Jazlyne Sabree offers insights into some of the work in Spectrum of Resilience - now through June 27th. "An overarching theme in my work is the idea of the black diaspora community and all of those struggles and sufferings and all of these oppressions that overwhelm us is uncovered that history. These are the stories. This is what took place. There is memory there. I am trying to capture that in the work and then pairing them with these contrasting, juxtaposing images of care, nurturing and healing." For more about Jazlyne and her work go to the press links in our bio and website: https://www.rowan.edu/arts/museum/exhibitions/js_spectrum_of_resilience.html šŸ“·1.gallery view. photo credit Contance Mensh šŸ“·1.Stillness. photo by Stillness. photo credit Erik James Montgomery šŸ“·3. Still taking this all in. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the opening of The Spectrum of Resilience. To see these works held, witnessed, and engaged with in community meant more than I can fully put into words. This exhibition is deeply personal. It moves through moments of illness, rest, intimacy, care, and survival. It reflects on how resilience is not one fixed state, but something that shifts. Sometimes it is strength. Sometimes it is softness. Sometimes it is simply continuing. These works hold pieces of my own experiences, but they also carry the weight of histories, relationships, and environments that shape how we endure. They remind me that even when things feel fragmented, we are still whole. Still here. I’m grateful to share this moment with all of you who have supported me, poured into me, and grown alongside me. The show is up through June 27 at RUMOCA if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet. Thank you for being part of this journey. Special thanks to @rowanuartmuseum for honoring the work in this way and to all of the many patrons and institutions who have supported me thus far. @akwaabagallery @mortoncontemporary @casanailhaart @cachelleartcenter @pafacademy @cau1988 @bostonu @arteducators_of_nj @mammontclair @massmoca @moodyjonesgallery @thecoloredgirlsmuseum You all are apart of this moment ✨ #thespectrumofresilience #artivism #njartist #phillyartist #atlantaartist

Opening - April 8th, 5 -7 PM. Jazlyne Sabree: The Spectrum of Resilience. Let us know you are attending through the link in our bio. Sabree creates large-scale collages composed of paint, paper, and found materials that center members of the African Diaspora as spiritual figures and vessels of memory. Through richly layered surfaces and textured compositions, she elevates her subjects while examining ancestry, displacement, and the enduring presence of cultural identity across generations. But there’s a striking layer that can’t be ignored: each figure wears the skin of endangered animals—leopards, giraffes, zebras. It’s a powerful metaphor that draws a parallel between these animals and Black life in America, underscoring a long history where Black bodies have been treated as targets. From past to present, that reality echoes, sometimes in headlines, sometimes in the quiet normalization of violence. images: Anoint My Head With Oil, 2025. We’re proud to share the completed installation of Sister Chapel at @rowanuartmuseum , which we finished earlier this year in partnership with Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this installation! Special shout out to Fred @ff_knives , our Special Projects Manager, for leading the installation, and to the rest of our incredible team for their hard work and care on this project. A big thank you to Simon Liu (@simonliuinc ) and colleagues for providing the custom stretcher that made this project possible. ā€œThe Sister Chapel was conceived in 1974 by Ilise Greenstein, who envisioned a monumental ā€˜hall of fame’ in which women’s achievements would be presented from a female perspective. Using a nominal pun on the Sistine Chapel, she proposed a secular, nonhierarchical alternative to the patriarchal system embodied in Michelangelo’s renowned ceiling fresco. In the spirit of feminist solidarity, Greenstein collaborated with twelve other women, whose individual contributions shaped the character and appearance of The Sister Chapel.ā€ - Read more at rowan.edu/arts/museum/exhibitions/sister-chapel1

Devan Shimoyama: Shift through March 21st is full of sparkle and shimmer. Devan incorporates glitter, rhinestones, and sequins into his paintings to elevate the beauty and majesty of the subjects depicted in the paintings. His bedazzled play ground swings and hoody are a memorial to youth and and lost innocence.
