Yes, Rossland used to be a mining town. But we also used to rip down the mountain on wooden skis and leather boots. Things change.
Today, the town is known for world-class trails, backcountry terrain, and a tourism economy built on outdoor recreation, drawing people from across B.C. and beyond.
The proposed open-pit mine on Record Ridge could impact that reality.
We stand with local tourism businesses and organizations like @saverecordridge around Rossland, calling on the Province to pause further approvals and withhold permits until key concerns around tourism, public health, ecosystems, and Indigenous rights, are fully and transparently addressed.
This week, a judicial review in Rossland will help determine what happens next.
Stop. Think.
Because once decisions like this are made, thereโs no easy way back. This isnโt about choosing between economy and environment. In Rossland, theyโre the same thing.

A world-class recreation area is at risk and the precedent could reach every mountain town.
Just outside Rossland, the closest open-pit mineral mine to a municipality in B.C. is currently not subjected to a full environmental assessment.
People travel from across B.C., the Pacific Northwest, and beyond to ski, ride, hike, and explore here. This isnโt just a local zone. Itโs part of a shared recreation culture and a landscape with longstanding cultural and historical significance, including for Indigenous Nations whose ancestral lands and rights would be directly affected.
An injunction has been granted, thanks to the hard work of @saverecordridge and the community of Rossland, proof of whatโs possible when people show up for the places they care about. But the battle is far from overโฆ
A judicial review is now set for early May.
If it can happen here, it can happen anywhereโฆ

โฃโThe Kootenays have always been home. Iโve lived what feels like three different lives here in Rossland โ growing up through my school years, returning as a ski bum and Freeride tour competitor, then coming back again to raise my family and build my business. No matter where I go, I keep finding my way back. The people, the mountains, the lifestyle โ this place is my tribe, and it always will be.โ - shares Kirsty.โฃ
