I like DKOs note that it “reflects architecture’s most fundamental role: creating moments of refuge within the vastness of the city.”

When I designed Elfin in 2014 they represented our DNA of engineered craft, and are made using solid Oak staves that are hand carved into form. The shape is elliptical and bowed, so it isn’t as simple as churning out on a lathe.

Gallium is a lounging piece that I’ve been working on, and enjoying, for some time.
A soft, silvery metal, gallium is best known for its unusually low melting point where it can literally melt in your hand - it’s also the critical element of our day that is causing so much global attention.

A collaboration of texture, form, colour, and the imagination of Ross Didier and artist Tom Gerrard with each panel of the upholstery becoming a canvas for his distinctive painted forms — merging art and object, comfort and character.
Crafted and painted by hand, this singular piece will be unveiled at Fletcher Arts Gallery as part of the October exhibition.

I’ve been experimenting in the workshop all year on a new Gunzel folding chair, and really happy with current results.
It was tricky to keep all the subtle details of the original design but I wanted to retain the carved sculptural backrest as well as the same utilitarian character and charm.
The folding mechanism has worked out well but now considering remaking in stainless steel.
Proportions need changing slightly, but the seating comfort is much better than I’d anticipated.

Meet a real Paper Nautilus - the Argonaut.
Not actually made of paper but one of the ocean’s most mysterious drifters and a creature I’ve been fascinated in since very young.
This delicate, paper-thin shell is crafted by the female argonaut octopus. She secretes it with her arms, not for protection like most shells, but as a floating nursery for her eggs.
Light and fragile as porcelain, it lets her ride the currents like a tiny sailor. For centuries, sailors believed these shells were gifts from the moon — treasures of the sea carrying secrets from another world.
