London Marathon 2026. 2hrs 49mins
A scattering of thoughts: positive, negative, develop, sustain.
100% personal to me. 100% subject to change.
I was nervous going into the race as I knew that my preparation and training hadnāt been āspecificā to the race (āš¼ that is not to say I ādidnāt train for itā lol, I just mean that the specificities of my sessions are focused on different goals later in the year) but it meant that the outcome and my performance felt pretty unpredictable (or are they ever?). Iād also DNFād last year with a random quad issue that I still havenāt been able to explain (think it is nutrition/hydration related, not MSK).
And so I had no specified goal time, but as always with Rosie Wild, high expectations of my own āperformanceā. I guess I just wanted to put it all out there and leave nothing in the tank. 𤷠Essentially, go hard, play with fire, and suffer the consequences. š„ but if that were totally true then surely Iād be satisfied with the result?
No. As it was, off I went, hard as nails, steel springs⦠and suffer I did š¤£. The same random and unexplained quad issue popped up at the same spot, but this time I chose to scale back and try and manage it, which I just about did, if ugly. So my right quad blew up before my body may well have done, I guess Iāll never know what if. But probably.
I think though that is what endurance sports are all about- thatās the high risk high reward world we are in- there are SO many variables that could derail a marathon, and the majority of them are controllable and preventable; human error. Preparation and execution mistakes.
Iām owning mine. I wasnāt ready, I aimed off without being honest even to myself, I suffered the consequences.
Bon appĆ©tit. I bloody love the flogging, and in hindsight Iād do it again, until I can execute āŗļø
