What I loved most about the commission was the challenge of growing root materials for a specific design. It took some advance planning, timetabling of planting cycles and then the seeds (and co-collaborators 🌱) did wonderful work!

The outcome of my QEST Scholarship (2024) is here! Today, I’m thrilled to reveal the new work that grew directly from my scholarship and collaboration with the talented @filipponassetti . The skills and insights I’ve gained have completely transformed Rootfull’s approach to innovation, creativity, and craft. Here’s to QEST, celebrating 35 years of supporting UK craft by funding training and education for aspiring makers and strengthening the sector’s future. QEST’s impact is significant, having awarded £7.4 million to almost 900 makers working across the UK in more than 130 different craft disciplines since being founded in 1990. From papermaking to biotextiles, ceramic conservation to sculpture, QEST supports both contemporary and traditional craft skills, as well as innovative techniques and practices.

New materials have been growing here at Studio Rootfull and I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be exhibiting at ASSEMBLE alongside pioneering designers and makers, including @solidwool@studiosannevisser@lulu_h___ and @alkesh_london .
The one-day event takes place on 20th November at the Bank of England, hosted by @material.matters_grant.gibson and brings together leading voices in design, architecture, manufacturing and business to explore how material intelligence can help reshape our economies.
Speakers include FranklinTill’s @carotill , journalist and author Peter Apps, fashion expert @becky_earley , revolutionary developer Johnathan Smales of Human Nature, transport designer Daniel Clucas of Studio ID, academic and author Tim Minshall, @karlijnsibbel , innovation director of sustainable packaging company Notpla and leading architects such as Amin Taha and Assemble’s Maria Lisogorskaya.
