Unlike your parents, mushrooms do have favorites. For the full moon on May 1, we explored the theme of COMMUNITY, and Richard Andres gave me a tour of @tantrefarm to forage for the spring arrivals of mushrooms, ramps, and nettles, and teach me about mycelium - natures reminder everything is connected. Then, @parisasplates gave me tips on simple ways to transform the haul into delightful dishes for us to enjoy at The Open Spoon - a potluck of nature, food, and stories that I host every full moon at the @washtenawfoodhub . Follow the link in the @rootcampcollective bio for the full YouTube video and more lessons from Parisa and Richard, and be sure to rsvp for the next full moon May 31.

Lending a helping hand at @dogstarfarm.mi today picking asparagus before the frost comes in. We will have a few of these fresh friends at the open spoon tonight and they will be our featured farmer for the next full moon May 31! 👀

Pea shoots were popping at the @a2market this month and inspired @parisasplates to create a pea shoot tart for April’s Open Spoon - a DIY farm-to-table potluck of local food, stories, and nature every full moon at the @washtenawfoodhub . You can head to the link in our profile to watch the full recipe on YouTube or RSVP for the next full moon potluck May 1! 🫛🌕🐺

May is known as the flower moon, this is a time when what’s been growing beneath the surface starts to fully blossom. May’s first full moon focuses on Community as we celebrate the relationships and networks that allow us to flourish. Bring a dish or story inspired by your own interpretation of the theme, or visit a local farm store to see what’s in season around you. Our feature dish will highlight mushrooms, nature’s reminder that everything is connected and we all rely on each other. Limited seats, be sure to RSVP at the link in our bio to save yours.

Thank you to everyone who made today’s full moon gathering so special. In honor of Imbolc, @parisasplates set a food theme of SEEDS, and attendees brought a variety of seed themed snacks. We also had a seed themed selection of native plants gathered by @chilsonrecords for attendees to create their own table decor, and @itslizbarney curated a collection of stories from the community. Thanks to @washtenawfoodhub for providing the venue. Enjoy howling at the full moon tonight and save the date for our next gathering March 4 @5 :30 - details to follow! 🌕

Save the date for our next full moon gathering Feb 1 - this time in the afternoon. Bring a story, bring tea, bring a snack, or just bring your positive energy, and we will see you there! Many of the moons this time of year were named for what was happening as the long winter had set in and yet there was promise of spring coming just around the corner. It also happens to fall on the weekend of Imbolc, an ancient celebration marking the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox, and was a time of planning and preparing for spring planting. In the spirit of Imbolc we will have SEED themed snacks. Challenging times remind us how much we rely on not just each other but ultimately the earth, so this gatherings story theme is TRUST - register at the link in our bio and bring a story about a time you experienced this feeling.
