William Leggett - one of our sculpture artists in residence at Baillie Hill in Milly's acre art studios @baillie.hill @millys.acre @williamleggett_art Still time to check out these concrete works on the grounds of the venue as they transform and combine this month for Victoria park art season. @townofvicpark Ends April 30th William Leggett is a West Australian based visual artist and director of artist collective Studio Payoka. The work of William Leggett explores the collective memories and futures of culture, nature, and technology. Incorporating digital design and concrete construction technologies, the artist creates a complex visual language of modular architectural forms, imagery, and designs that evoke structures and environments which are both ancient and non-existent, simultaneously present in and absent from history. Can We Speak of What We Become? Opening night Thursday the 19th of February, 6-9PM An entity is coalescing – mounds of flesh writhing and condensing into an ancient mass. Within this formative body exists a spark of sentience, calling out and dreaming of what it is, what it may be, and what it will become. This primordial entity is a deity of self-design, and it is arriving imminently. An interdisciplinary exhibition featuring a series of paintings by @tom_________art paired with the printed ekphrastic poems of @rhyshermite . In its exploration of identity within a gendered culture, the body of work seeks to push the relationship between art and poetry – presenting both disciplines as a symbiotic and inseparable whole. #perthartists #perthart #perthpoetry #poetry #emergingartists

Can We Speak of What We Become? — Thomas Brown and Rhys L'Hermite @tom_________art & @rhyshermite Opening night Thursday February 19th 6-9pm ‘Can We Speak of What We Become?’ is a collaborative project exploring the construction of identity within a gendered culture. Brown’s airbrushed paintings and depictions of abstracted flesh intersect with printed poems by L’Hermite to convey a narrative journey, wherein a sentient entity narrates its own formation and eventual birth—contemplating the nature of its reality, its body, and its identity within these formative stages. Ekphrastic poetry works alongside painted forms to extend visual depictions with a personified voice. The result is a projected sense of sentience, where poems reflect the contemplative voice of the entity or embody the external forces acting upon it. Using the abject, the works seek to explore the inner battles of self-identification which struggle against external and gendered perceptions or structures, as well as the turmoil caused by unknown senses of self, and the duality of ‘the unique’ or ‘other’ being both deified or demonised by different societal groups. ‘Can We Speak of What We Become?’ forms a highly narrative series, where characterisation and worldbuilding techniques form a critical component to the immersive and projective experience of this inter-disciplinary exhibition. The works invite viewers to engage with the exhibition as a living, thinking entity, whilst contemplating the defining moments which shaped their own identities in the process. #perthartists #perthart #perthpoetry #poetry #emergingartists
