Thanks @townandcountrymag and @erinleighcarlson for featuring the @sfballet Opening Night Gala curated by Artistic Director @rojotamara . Rita Moreno is bringing Old Hollywood glamour to the @sfballet . The ageless icon, one of 21 artists who’ve achieved EGOT status, was the honorary chair at the Ballet’s 2026 Opening Night Gala on January 14. Moreno, sporting a black Hervé Léger jacket and black gown, attended the event with her daughter, Fernanda Fisher, and mingled with guests including Tamara Rojo, the artistic director at SF Ballet, as well as San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie @danielluriesf and First Lady Becca Prowda. “She’s Hispanic and she speaks Spanish,” Moreno gushed of Rojo, who joined the cultural institution in 2022. “What could be better? For this little Puerto Rican girl. It’s exciting. And it’s exciting because she’s so good at what she does. She knows how to run a company.” Moreno and Fisher dined at City Hall with hundreds of ballet enthusiasts, notably Moreno’s fellow gala chair @terrasollman , ballet auxiliary president @michellecurtisharris (wearing a black dress by Emily Dumitrescu), Lillian Phan Pickering @lilphancy (in Oscar De La Renta), Pam Preston @pampreston (in Monique Lhuillier), @linderbetsy (in Tadashi Shoji). Other attendees included @zacposen and his partner, Harrison Ball, Dede Wilsey, Dr. Carolyn Chang, Stephanie Block @howdyblock , Jayson Johnson @jayistobe , Betty Yu @bett_yu , Jennifer Walske, and Maryam Muduroglu @maryammuduroglu The Champagne-fizzy, diamond-drippy evening, which concluded with a performance and after-party, supported the company’s new works, @sfballetschool scholarships, and community outreach programs.—Erin Carlson 📸 @drewaltizerphotography

Another fabulous fundraiser in the books for @sfballet ! The proceeds raised from this event benefit over 13,000 young people across the Bay Area through dance partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club, SF Ballet’s School and Youth Programs with residency programs at San Francisco Public Schools, the SF Ballet School Scholarship Fund, and our broader community partnerships. So honored to co-chair with @skheck

Thanks San Francisco Chronicle for the feature of our upcoming 2026 San Francisco Ballet Opening Gala! @sfchronicle • Legendary performer @theritamoreno is teaming up with the San Francisco Ballet for its opening night gala next year as one of several special guests at the institution’s biggest night. The Puerto Rican-born actor, singer and dancer, who has lived in Berkeley since the 1990s, has been named honorary chair at the gala, the Ballet’s annual fundraiser. Best known for her turn as Anita in 1961’s “West Side Story,” Moreno is one of the last remaining stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age and is among the few artists to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award to achieve EGOT status. The Ballet’s black tie event, scheduled for Jan. 14, will begin with a dinner at City Hall before guests make their way to the War Memorial Opera House for a dance program curated by Ballet Artistic Director @rojotamara , which previews the company’s 2026 performances. This year’s performance includes an excerpt from Mark Morris’ “A Garden,” which had its world premiere at the Ballet in 2001; “Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan” by Sir Frederick Ashton, which honors the San Francisco-born pioneer of modern dance; and the Epilogue pas de deux from Alonzo King’s “Deep River,” which will feature an appearance by Adji Cissoko, principal at Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Other excerpts on the bill include performances from Helgi Tomasson and Yuri Possokhov’s “Don Quixote,” William Forsythe’s “Blake Works I” and George Balanchine’s “Stars and Stripes,” which are among the works on the calendar for the Ballet next year. DJ Shellheart, the official DJ of the Golden State Valkyries, plans to join for the after-party over at City Hall. San Francisco DJ Chris Clouse and live band Wonderbread 5 are also scheduled to perform at the late-night celebration. —Zara Irshad More Information San Francisco Ballet’s Opening Night Gala: 🍽️ Dinner at 6 p.m. Jan. 14. | City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Sometimes when we say art saves lives we mean literally. From a letter titled “Saved by Stoppard” on today’s Times. Written by Professor Emeritus Michael Baum. “Stoppard never learnt how many lives he saved by writing Arcadia” @thetimes
