Today, I am excited to announce our Family Opportunity Agenda. We are going to be relentless in our drive to make our city more affordable for families in San Francisco.
Starting this month, a family of four making less than $230,000 a year will qualify for free child care at hundreds of high quality providers across the city.
And by this fall, those earning up to $310,000 a year will receive a 50% subsidy.
Our plan also expands opportunities for our students.
In partnership with SFUSD, we’re launching a new pilot that allows high school students to earn associate degrees or industry certifications at City College—with a guaranteed transfer to SF State University. This will help them become nurses, police officers, Pre-K teachers, auto technicians, chefs, and more.
We’re committed to making San Francisco a place where families can stay, grow, and build their future. This is just the beginning. Let’s go, San Francisco.
San Francisco is a city on the rise. This past year, we made strong progress on safer streets, our economic recovery, and a government focused on results. I spoke with ABC’s @jonkarl about what’s changed—and how we’ll keep delivering for San Franciscans.
Citywide crime is down almost 30%, car break-ins are down 44%, and homicides are at lows we haven’t seen since the 1950s. We still have more work to do, but these stats are a sign that we are heading in the right direction. Thank you to @sfpdofficial and everyone who keeps our city safe.
One City Day is coming soon 👀
This is a citywide day of service led by my wife and first lady, Becca Prowda, and we want you to join us. Volunteer opportunities will be available in all 11 districts, giving you the chance to make a difference in your community. Sign-ups for projects drop on May 29th. Visit sf.gov/one-city-day for more information.
Let’s go, San Francisco!
A new report from the city’s controller reaffirms that our economy is turning the corner.
- Jobs and job applications are growing.
- Unemployment is coming down.
- Downtown transit ridership has reached post-pandemic highs.
- Office vacancies are declining.
- Foot traffic is steadily recovering.
Our economy is coming back, but we are not out of the woods. Our recovery is still fragile, and we still have a significant structural budget deficit exacerbated by federal and state cuts, driving our budget gap to $1 billion in the coming years.
My job as mayor is to set up our city for success, not just today, but for years to come. I am laser focused on delivering a responsible budget that prioritizes core services, protects our social safety net, and ensures a broad, lasting economic recovery.
Have you seen this chicken at Il Pollaio? Since 1984, Paula’s family has owned this North Beach hidden gem. There were plenty of locals eating lunch inside who, of course, recommended the chicken, so I had to give it a try. It was delicious. Thank you, @ilpollaiosf !
We still have work to do in San Francisco, so I got out this morning with department heads to walk the streets of the Mission and Hayes Valley. I asked them about better deployment strategies and increased coordination with outreach teams. We must get people help while keeping these spaces clean and safe for everyone.
I see where we need to improve every single day, and I hear it from residents and business owners who live there. We will be relentless about improving conditions in these neighborhoods and across San Francisco—because that’s what our residents deserve.
Valencia Live brought neighbors out tonight in the Mission. The small businesses and merchants were feeling the good vibes, along with live music and lots of energy. Let’s go, San Francisco!
San Francisco Giants legend Brandon Crawford is now officially in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. Congratulations to this two-time champion shortstop who we all watched during our great World Series runs. A true Giant and legend for this city, he helped define an unforgettable era of baseball in San Francisco.
New grant opportunities are now open for San Francisco’s arts and culture organizations, including new funding programs for small support organizations impacted by federal funding cuts and groups undertaking capital improvement projects.

A new non-stop flight from San Francisco to Sapporo just dropped! United is launching this seasonal flight from December to March for the first time, giving San Franciscans more travel options and bringing more visitors to our great city. Tourism is our number one industry, and this new flight will help bring even more travelers from Asia to San Francisco.
I decided to bike from City Hall to the Embarcadero to get to my next meeting. Biking is a great way to get around our city, especially on a gorgeous day like today! Get out there and enjoy our beautiful city. ☀️🚲
