Wow. I HAD THE AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO PAINT THE OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL PORTRAITS FOR @coppinstateuniversity ! Where they will forever hang in Parlett L. Moore Library This project holds a very special place in my heart because HBCUs are so vital to the Black community. As an HBCU graduate I will ALWAYS be the first to say that they aren’t just schools, they’re sanctuaries. It’s a place where we are given the opportunity to define our own futures. It’s a place where Black leaders who will make a difference in the world are created. And most importantly it’s a place where Black students can just feel safe. As we close out Black History Month, I’m beyond grateful to add my mark to history and to be a part of something so meaningful. This project was never just about capturing an image on a canvas for me, It’s about honoring the journey. Acknowledging the struggles and the triumphs that have brought this university to where it is today. These portraits represent the powerful legacy of those who have served Coppin State University, and I hope they will serve as a reminder of the incredible work that continues to be done here. To the past and present Presidents of Coppin State University, through these portraits your legacy will live on for generations of students to come. Your impact is felt, and your contributions will never be forgotten. And if you’re wondering why the portraits’ frames look so good, IT’S BECAUSE MY MOTHER MADE THEM! Her talent is truly unmatched. The amount of detail and care she puts into everything she creates has always BEEN and will always BE my main source of inspiration. My Artist Talk for PACK LIGHT turned out to be something I didn’t realize I truly needed. It did something for me. Being in conversation with @thesolasystem left me feeling naked in the safest, most supported way. Sola, thank you. My heart is still so full from this experience. Words can’t even explain how much fun I had at the opening reception of PACK LIGHT lol. With drinks provided by @atmamakokos , A TIME WAS HAD! I took a few days to process because, WOW. What a way to bring in my 30’s! I walked into this new decade surrounded by nothing but love and support. And that’s something I will cherish forever. Thank you so much to everyone who came to the opening of my debut solo exhibition PACK LIGHT. This exhibition is incredibly personal to me, and it means so much to finally be able to share it with all of you. @ayespaceforus @thesolasystem Thank you for giving me a safe space to share my work and create an experience without any censorship.
