Hey folks! 💅 Just wanted to share something that I reckon is important. This Christmas I decided to please my queer inner child who at one point in my life desperately wanted a Barbie doll. I never asked for it because somehow, even at 5 years old, I already knew the rules of the game that says boys couldn't play with dolls and something must be wrong with me because I want that. The feeling of shame for being who we are is devastating. But thankfully I grew up and today I am the one who protects and cares for that queer child that lives within me. Yes, take my money and give me my doll! 😆 It's liberating and revolutionary to be who you are and not be ashamed of it. I ask you to please protect all the queer kids in this world. All of them. Including the one who still lives inside you. This society was not designed to take care of queer kids and it sucks. Presenting: Punk, Goth, Rebel and Queer – the Years of Dance to the Underground Info: Between the years of 2022 and 2024, the Dance to the Underground club night was a fantastical land of punk and goth aesthetic, queer transgression and riotous over the top performance. From the basement of the legendary Fibber’s bar came a scream of rebellion in a new, barrier-breaking language. Photographer Al Fartukh spent those years documenting the club and will present their 35mm film photography and analogue video at GalleryX in January. Proudly done with the support of @photomuseumirl Where? Gallery X, 11 Hume Street, Dublin. When? Opening night is the 15th of January 2026 from 6-9pm. Open to visit from the 16th to the 31st of January 2026 during usual gallery opening hours. I’m doing my first ever solo show!!! I have been keeping this delicious secret for months and now that the date is finally getting closer I can reveal it to all of you! I owe @dance.to.the.underground so much for being the place where I began my photography career and with many years of parties captured on film it was time to commemorate the nights long gone.
