The room echoed: Be you. Become radically self-aware and show up āØ
The @forbeswomanafrica award winners stressed that readiness is developed in the doing stage and that support makes all the difference.
We need these reminders. We need experiences that wake us up, help us see challenges as opportunities and celebrate wins.
Congratulations to all the @forbeswomanafrica winnersāØ
#LWS2025
I felt inspired to reintroduce myself so here are some things Iāve been enjoying lately:
Midday pilates, high-protein breakfasts, the smell of books, colourful flowers in winter, tiny gestures of appreciation to cool people (gifting is my love language), and daily journaling.
Here are some other things about me if you care to know:
1. My friends say that I laugh like a hyena.
I used to be a loud-mouth extrovert but I think that corporate domestication and wisdom has influenced me to be a lot more reserved. The laugh however, hasnāt changed.
2. Iām learning Japanese.
Iām still on Hiragana characters but Iām quite excited to get to conversation level.
3. Iām also taking a Yale Course called the Science of Well being which is all about how to be resilient and what really makes us happy. The modules are pretty eye-opening.
4. I have St Helenian status
This just means that I can live and work on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic, opposite Angola - when I wish.
5. Iāve been vegan for 7 years now.
It started as a 5-day meat-free challenge and just never ended. I know that some would say Ā“what a tough decisionā but this has been quite easy. Fruit and veg is tax-free and if you enjoy cooking like me, it becomes a creative outlet. The tough part is actually dealing with people who arenāt accommodating or feel the need to tease me. (Youāll be surprised at the childish remarks people make. I laugh it off and then just distance myself š)
6. Iāve been a copywriter for 10 years
And let me tell you that this industry is so underrated. The level of excellence that Iām exposed to is constantly inspiring and the trick is to get to a point of choosing your projects. That hun, is chefās kiss.
7. I have an online store: @bewhole.co.za
Where I sell satin hair accessories and our pillowcases are the best seller. The quality is amazing and we donāt ship worldwide yet but have received orders from all over the country. I havenāt promoted it here (how awkward) but thankfully the brand has had the help of an expensive copywriter to to work on SEO š and thatās why the IG is dormant but the orders arenāt.
I love having you here š¤
Always focus on the big picture.
All the little choices we make, add up and the saddest part of stepping in the wrong direction is that you never realise the full extent until itās too late.
.
We have to zoom out and get some perspective. By 2050, thereāll be more plastic in the ocean than fish at the rate that weāre going. Yes, there is a lot happening in the world right now and this is one of the most important discussions to have. The ocean deserves a break from our plastic - a break to recover and to continue producing 50% of the air we breathe.Ā
.
We also donāt want to watch waves of junk wash up on our favourite beaches so letās make a pact to start using more glass.
.
I use all my store-bought kimchi and olive glass containers for dry foods and vases, and I always carry a glass water bottle that can be reused.
.
It doesnāt take a lot to be a little more conscious and it doesnāt mean that you canāt afford new containers if you are reusing old ones. It just means that you are creative - you can imagine more for your products than their purpose - and you work smarter with your money.
.
Some of my friends (including @nellyfizzle@ryguysa@nicoleamymadell@stacikim14@athilupuwana and @charles_tertiens ) are joining me to reduce plastic use. Are you with us?
.
Drop me a comment below saying, Iām in - if you are š

This year, our thoughts fully support us, our actions align and we can feel the future unfolding before it arrives.
Weāve done enough healing. Weāve read, weāve prayed, weāve isolated and meditated, now we allow.
We love ourselves deeply and remember that mistakes help us course-correct. Weāll try new things, weāll feel nervous and silly. And weāll give ourselves grace to experience a range of emotions because thatās what gives life colour and meaning.
We are honest with ourselves, open to change and protective of our peace. We treat our emotions as our control centre and most valued possession. We donāt leave anyone in charge of how we feel, ever.
We forgive quickly. We welcome help. We offer it. We remember that there are about two thousand weeks left to live if weāre in our 30s so thereās no time for imposter syndrome.
We embrace who we are to find our people. We explore more to know ourselves. We give the love we want to receive, freely. And we only choose from love, not lack.
