Get to know me a little bit! I LOVE my family. My wife @elizatrendiak and I have been married for 11 years. We have 2 kids who keep us extremely busy. Every morning for the last decade Eliza and I have coffee and talk about the day ahead. We used to go to our favourite coffee shop every morning but now that we have the kids, we make our coffee at home and sit on our balcony.
Met Haylie at the 99 B-Line stop.
She is a second-year biochemistry student at UBC, future ER doctor, and already spending her summers in the hospital soaking it all up. She loves the chaos, the variety of people, the fast pace, the fact that no two days look the same. She even finds organic chemistry relaxing, which tells you everything you need to know about how cut out for this she is.
I tried sports medicine in high school. They handed me a textbook on day one and told me to memorize all the muscles. I was out before the day was done. I literally got up out of my desk and bounced.
Haylie is doing what I could never do, and that makes me all the more grateful for people like her who are dedicating their lives to it.
Through my work with Doctors BC, I’ve seen firsthand how much heart goes into improving our healthcare system and meeting Haylie reminded me exactly why that work matters. She’s the future of it.

Meet Felicia: Portrait No. 21 of 99.
Physiology student at UBC on her way to becoming a nurse. She and her roommate had just finished touring VGH, getting familiar with the hospital where they would one day work.
She has a handmade keychain on her backpack, a tiny drawing of herself that a friend made. I love finding those little personal details.
We ended up connecting over filmmaking. She mentioned wanting to get into it, had already tried DaVinci Resolve and found it overwhelming, which is fair (I do too). I told her you don’t need to go that deep to start. A simple setup, shoot and share. Document the journey. She’s already got the story, nursing school, the hospitals, the grind....She just needs to start pointing a camera at it and sharing it to the world!
Drop a comment if you want to follow her journey through nursing school!
Meet Jess @jesshillmusic
She is a super talented singer songwriter and she plays the guitar. Her music is beautiful.
Currently it does not sound like she is working on any new music but I hope she does in the near future.
You can find her music on platforms like @bandcamp , @spotify and on @youtube under the name Jess Hill Music.
She also works for @cityofburnaby and loves that she gets to help people everyday day. What could be better than that?
Meet Momo @momostrashcan
Momo plays the mandolin and fiddle. They taught me that they tuned the same way. I didn’t know that before. This allows them to move fluidly between both instruments.
Momo is a street performer who performs all around the world and they love the freedom of street performing. They create their own schedule and reports to nobody.
They talk about how they and other street performers simply love performing for other people and brightening their day. They want to make people happy.
All too often people can be complete jerks towards street performers and they just want to let everybody know that streak performers are real people just like you and me.
And that was my exact experience meeting Momo. They were kind and cool.
Nishan us a hard working housekeeper who loves to read books in his spare time.
He was so lovely to work with and had a gentle soul.
His bus arrived as soon as we started our portraits but I am very glad to have met him. Even for 30 seconds!

Meet Erick!
He is a crane operator who doesn’t mind the heights or solitude that comes along with the gig.
He is also a drummer for hire and enjoys all types of music.
Next time you look across the Vancouver skyline, count the cranes. Maybe Erick is up there!

Meet Fe
She works hard at @rogersarena and her favourite part of the job is food prep. So when you are buying food at the concession, give her a huge thank you for her hard work!
There are some slick perks to the job like seeing games and concerts. Her favourite concert so far was @arianagrande
I am so thankful to have met Fe and her willingness to be in the @peopleofthe99bline photography project.

Meet David. @ratmonk_
He’s a travelling street performer from Vancouver, but he’ll tell you straight up, he’s totally fed up with this city. Europe is where he feels alive.
He loves the pace, the livability, and the fact that playing banjo on a street corner actually pays the bills over there. He said you can earn way more as a performer in Europe than you ever could in Canada.
His band is called RatMonk, you can find them on Instagram and Bandcamp.
David comes back to Vancouver for a few months each year to keep his job in addiction outreach on the Downtown Eastside. Honestly, we’re lucky to have him doing that work.
Meet Jami.
I first noticed her lion sweater and couldn’t help but comment on how amazing it was. That’s how our conversation started.
During our photoshoot, I learned she’s a poet and was actually on her way to a reading at UBC.
Her work spans poetry, teaching, and editing, and she’s published several collections while supporting other writers along the way, but what stood out most was her calm, generous energy.
I’m really glad she stopped for a portrait.
Check out her website for info on her poetry books.
