Another delivery of young plants has arrived for contract grow potting, supplied by our trusted network. Over many years, we’ve built a reliable supply chain that understands our specific requirements and responds as quickly as we do when new orders come in. The race is on! Our latest tunnel is complete, now the mypex and irrigation team need to keep ahead of the potting 🏃♂️. One side is already full of new potting a few days after mypexing. As we get into the end of March we have 2 potting machines running 8 hours a day and a team who are hand potting full time. Here we go! 🪴

Grosvenor Square perennial ground layer. The first image shows the perennials layout plan. The individual colours are not individual plant species, they are different plant mixes. There are six different mixes in total and they repeat themselves rhythmically across the square. The actual shapes represent flowing, organic, interlocking patterns that approximately follow the curving lines of the paths. I developed this scheme using my FLOW method, and the last two images show my original quick coloursketch, and the black and white delineation of areas.
Earlier this week we set out a 'benchmark' example of the planting in a small section of the square to serve as a reference for the wider planting as a whole. The sequence of images shows the marking out of the different mix areas (with woody plants already placed), and then the setting out process. The main structural or character plants are set out first (using my 3+1 patterning for many of them), and then the other plants start to fill the gaps, again using similar patterning)
The main contractors for the project are @maylimltd who are doing a fantastic job, and the planting sub contractors are @willerbylandscapes I've worked with Willerbys on many projects and they are superb. What is really good is that, because I've worked with them before, several of the supervisors know and understand the setting out method and are able to do it really efficiently.
The images first show the initial rough setting out, and then the final planted outcomes. This is just a small area and it will likely take about three months before the planting of the whole square is completed.
The mixes you can see here have a lot of evergreen foliage plants, and that's deliberate - to have a very verdant winter appearance - at this time of year it's like having a Christmas wreath on the ground - rather than a more dead-looking winter landscape.

Around 150,000 plants and bulbs are being grown for their new home in Mayfair. From shade-loving perennials to climate-resilient species, each has been chosen to thrive in a woodland-inspired design.
Together, they’ll introduce year-round colour, texture and ecological value to one of London’s most historic green spaces, creating a landscape that evolves with the seasons, supports biodiversity and enhances the wellbeing of everyone who spends time in the square.

As part of Grosvenor Square’s transformation, around150,000 plants and bulbs are being nurtured for their future home in the heart of Mayfair, creating a rich, climate-resilient urban garden.
Each species has been carefully selected to thrive beneath the mature tree canopy and in wet or dry conditions, bringing year-round colour, texture and biodiversity.
Working with Professor Nigel Dunnett, the planting design draws on naturalistic landscapes to benefit both nature and the wellbeing of everyone who uses the Square.

At @robintacchi plant nursery yesterday checking out the plants for Grosvenor Square @grosvenorsq It's only seeing these huge blocks of individual plants for the project that the true scale of what we are doing becomes apparent. In order of appearance:
