Very happy and proud that Virgina Quarterly Review
@vqreview has published 26 pages(!!!) of my “Oselyata” project in their latest fall edition, accompanied by a beautiful text written by
@meganbuskey about the current situation.
I’ve been working on this project about ex-homeless community
@emmausoselya in Ukraine since 2016. It started off as a collaborative project together with writer
@lisa_weeda , but in the last few years I have been going back alone. With the aim of continuing the story, and ultimately publishing a photo-book of this long term project. In the beginning of this year I went back with a new challenge: to explore how life has changed since the full-scale invasion by Russia. The community has been dealing with homelessness for over 20 years but since the war started, the country’s perception of displacement and homelessness has obviously changed. Whether you are an alcoholic already living on the streets or if you are a wealthy family living in the Donbas: suddenly everyone can become homeless.
Thank you to
@lisa_weeda for always staying part of this project, even if you’re physically not there with me,
@benmauk for the trust and help,
@meganbuskey for the text, Jennifer Boggs and
@reyes_edits from VQR,
@olga_200321 for being brave to share your story and of course the rest of the
@emmausoselya @olyabiyanska @gsemenchuk community for always making me feel loved and welcome ❤️
